Former Liverpool star Graeme Souness has savaged the Saudi Pro League.

The ex-Reds midfielder and manager stated that the standard of the Saudi top flight is so bad he would be able to play there at present.

He also commented on how there were less than 1000 fans present to watch the likes of Jordan Henderson play for Al-Ettifaq recently.

He said in his Daily Mail column: I spent a week in Portugal last week and was in the gym every day, sometimes watching Portuguese television carrying games from the Saudi league.

It was an experience which helped me understand why only 696 fans turned up to watch Jordan Henderson's Al-Ettifaq team lose at home.

"I have to say that the games were a difficult watch and they actually got me thinking: 'I could do half an hour as an aging central midfielder in that football.' I'm making myself available!"
