Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders has explained what they sought over the summer market.

The Reds have successfully rebuilt their midfield with Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Wataru Endo all arriving.

At their Carabao Cup presser, Lijnders explained: "What I like is our style and ideas are still the same.

"Five years ago they were the same, seven years ago they were the same. Today they are the same. These are the ideas of Jurgen, of the club, of me, of the staff. It was always the case the players make the difference - not the management. For example, Trent plays the passes nobody can see. It's always about the players. We want technique, so when we buy we buy technique, something specific to improve our style because teams adapt to us.

"They learn about our strengths and stop them. But that comes more from the individual styles. What the players have all in common is technique. And they all have the character to play for this club."
