Liverpool chiefs are prepared to meet the buyout clause of Flamengo midfielder Joao Gomes in January.

Sport says the Reds will go all out to sign Gomes in January and could even trigger the player's £53.4million release clause.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with Flamengo midfielder Gomes since around the end of the summer window, but now face competition from Real Madrid - who see the Brazilian as a natural successor to Casemiro.

Liverpool were pipped by Los Blancos for Aurelien Tchouameni over the summer and may act quickly in January to avoid a repeat.

The 21-year-old signed a new contract with Flamengo earlier this month, and the Brazilian club are unwilling to negotiate a fee any lower than his €60million (around £54.3million) release clause.
