Liverpool’s rapidly-disintegrating season suffered a further blow as they were embarrassed 4-1 by Eredivisie leaders PSV in the Champions League.
Arne Slot’s men have now conceded seven goals in just two games at home after a humiliating 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Sunday.
They made a dreadful start tonight as Virgil van Dijk handled in the box inside the opening five minutes, with Ivan Perisic coolly slotting home his spot-kick. Dominik Szoboszlai equalised 10 minutes later as Liverpool began a period of sustained pressure, but despite plenty of chances could not convert their dominance into goals.
And it cost them dearly after the break, with defensive howlers by Ibrahima Konate, Milos Kerkez and Van Dijk contributing to PSV’s next three goals. Guus Til got the better of Kerkez with a sharp counter before substitute Couhaib Driouech scored a double, his second coming in stoppage time, condemning Liverpool to a ninth defeat in 12 games.
The Reds are now 13th in the table on nine points, with their conquerors tonight 15th on eight.

No way out for crisis-ridden Liverpool as PSV run rampant in 4-1 Anfield humiliation
22:15 , Richard Jolly at AnfieldArne Slot’s excellence against Dutch clubs propelled him to Liverpool. Now it is a sign of how everything seems to be going wrong for Slot that even that prowess appears to have deserted him. Peter Bosz was the Dutch master of Anfield as, scarcely believably, Liverpool suffered a ninth defeat in 12 games. They did not just lose. They were hammered.

No way out for crisis-ridden Liverpool as PSV run rampant in 4-1 Anfield humiliation
Liverpool 1-4 PSV
22:02 , Richard JollyRichard Jolly at AnfieldA shocking night for Arne Slot and Liverpool. For PSV to win at Anfield is remarkable, for it to be 4-1 is awful for Liverpool.
Liverpool 1-4 PSV
21:57 , Flo Clifford27 shots for Liverpool, nine on target, one scored.
PSV had nine attempts, six on target, four in the back of the net.

FULL-TIME: Liverpool 1-4 PSV
21:54 , Flo CliffordTNT Sports comms say this is PSV’s first win on English soil since they beat Spurs in 2008. 2008!
PSV were excellent, particularly in the second half, but this was utterly dismal by Liverpool. Seven conceded in two games at Anfield. It’s well and truly falling apart.
PSV go to celebrate with their travelling fans.
FULL-TIME: Liverpool 1-4 PSV
21:52 , Flo Clifford90+4 mins: The full-time whistle is blown and Liverpool are put out of their misery, if only briefly.
Arne Slot has a face like thunder.
GOAL! Liverpool 1-4 PSV
21:50 , Flo Clifford90+1 mins: Bad to worse. PSV’s bench storm onto the field to celebrate as Driouech gets a double. Sloppy defending by Liverpool again as PSV counter; van Dijk is beaten by Dest. He cuts it back for Driouech, perfectly positioned in the centre, who slams it past a diving Mamardashvili into the bottom right corner.
Liverpool 1-3 PSV
21:48 , Flo Clifford90 mins: FOUR minutes added on at Anfield.
Liverpool 1-3 PSV
21:45 , Flo Clifford88 mins: Chiesa has been industrious and picks a good spot again, drifting to the left. He has Gakpo in space further left but goes for goal himself; it takes a deflection off a PSV shirt and bobbles towards Kovar and behind.
Van Dijk leaps for the resulting set-piece but it’s off target.
PSV make another sub: Man is replaced by Bajraktarevic.
Liverpool 1-3 PSV
21:43 , Flo Clifford86 mins: Jones cuts it back for Salah at the byline but Veerman is alert to the danger and clears, hoofing it clear for Saibari to counter.
There’s a steady stream of Liverpool fans heading for the exit.
Liverpool 1-3 PSV
21:40 , Flo Clifford83 mins: PSV counter but Saibari’s looping ball into the box is rather hopeful and there’s no one there.
Anfield has gone very quiet, except for the 3,000 PSV fans.
Veerman has a go but it’s straight into Mamardashvili’s arms.
Now Isak catches the ball on the spin and turns it toward goal; Kovar spills it for another Liverpool corner... It takes some deflections, the last off Mac Allister, and he’s not happy about it.
Liverpool 1-3 PSV
21:38 , Flo Clifford81 mins: Just before that Kerkez fired off a shot that whistled past the post.
Chiesa goes down in the box under a Gasiorowski challenge. Liverpool want a penalty but there’s no indication VAR are looking at it....
Chiesa has been busy since he came on. He’s into the box again, fires off a shot that’s turned behind for another corner.
Liverpool 1-3 PSV
21:35 , Flo Clifford77 mins: More substitutes for Liverpool; Konate’s mistake is his last action of the game as he’s hoiked for Federico Chiesa.
Three goals conceded in each of their last three games. Any more for any more?
Liverpool 1-3 PSV
21:33 , Flo CliffordRichard Jolly at AnfieldAnd PSV do get a third, after Ibrahima Konate's latest mistake this season.
GOAL! Liverpool 1-3 PSV
21:32 , Flo Clifford73 mins: Corner to Liverpool. It’s a deep delivery from Salah and van Dijk nods his header wide.
PSV counter, Konate makes a misjudgement and it’s Pepi who darts away from him; his strike clatters off the side of the post, but the rebound falls sweetly for Driouech and he makes no mistake.
Liverpool 1-2 PSV
21:29 , Richard JollyRichard Jolly at AnfieldAnother game that is going horribly wrong for Slot and Liverpool. It will be intriguing what he does. He put too many attackers on against Forest on Saturday. That didn't work. He could turn to Chiesa and Ngumoha now, but he can't afford to concede a third.
Liverpool 1-2 PSV
21:27 , Flo Clifford69 mins: Break in play now as Perisic has twinged a hamstring.
He and Til are off, Pepi and Driouech - both Champions League scorers - are on.
Liverpool 1-2 PSV
21:25 , Flo Clifford68 mins: Liverpool press again. Salah is next to cross from the right, Gakpo is lurking but hits the side netting. Liverpool claim handball by Dest, but no luck.
The corner is good but sent narrowly wide by Konate. PSV having to be alert but defending well.
SAVE! Liverpool 1-2 PSV
21:23 , Flo Clifford66 mins: That would have been a stunner from Szoboszlai - it’s straight at the keeper but absolutely venomous, Kovar reacts brilliantly to parry over.
Now the Hungarian comes again, floats a cross to Gakpo at the far post, but the Dutchman sends his header over the bar!
Isak has a go now but Kovar leaps down low to his right to save.
Liverpool 1-2 PSV
21:20 , Flo Clifford63 mins: Perisic clatters his delivery straight into the wall, bit of a waste.
Liverpool 1-2 PSV
21:20 , Flo Clifford63 mins: The momentum is certainly with PSV. Kerkez and Mac Allister both lunge on their man and all three go down in a heap. Free-kick to PSV, around 22 yards out in a very dangerous spot.
Liverpool 1-2 PSV
21:18 , Flo Clifford61 mins: Bad to worse for Liverpool as Ekitike looks to be in real discomfort. Isak is being hastily prepared and the Frenchman walks gingerly off, looking gutted.
Liverpool 1-2 PSV
21:16 , Richard JollyRichard Jolly at AnfieldA goal that again illustrated Mohamed Salah's defensive issues. Mauro Junior got past him far too easily to cross. Milos Kerkez can be faulted, too, as Guus Til got in front of him to finish.
GOAL! Liverpool 1-2 PSV
21:15 , Flo Clifford56 mins: Corner to Liverpool... Van Dijk’s header falls to Mac Allister; the box is heavily congested and he gets in a tangle, but PSV eventually drag it away from under his feet and clear.
Now PSV are on the counter, carving Liverpool open; it’s a terrific ball forward by Mauro Junior, and it lands perfectly for Til. Kerkez doesn’t get in front of his man and Til pokes it past Mamardashviki for his first Champions League goal!
Van Dijk and Slot have been sucker-punched.
Liverpool 1-1 PSV
21:11 , Flo Clifford54 mins: Another mistake at the back by Liverpool allows Perisic to escape but Konate is alert to it and gesticulates to the Kop to make some noise as he clears.
PSV have a lot more confidence in the early stages of this half.
Liverpool 1-1 PSV
21:07 , Flo Clifford50 mins: Having said that... Dest gets the better of Kerkez and storms away unmarked, floating a lovely ball across to Saibari, but it’s a fraction too high.
Now Jones plays a very loose cross to his keeper and Saibari nearly capitalises, turning it behind for a PSV corner!
It’s played short and doesn’t go anywhere.
Liverpool 1-1 PSV
21:05 , Flo Clifford47 mins: No change to either side at half-time.
Already a better start to this half for Liverpool compared to Saturday, when they conceded 34 seconds after the restart.
Szoboszlai strikes but Kovar watches him all the way and colelcts.
Liverpool 1-1 PSV
21:04 , Richard JollyRichard Jolly at AnfieldIf nothing else, that first half suggested Liverpool are better with Ekitike in attack than Isak. The Frenchman brought more pace and more sharpness, whereas the Swede was wretched on Saturday.
SECOND HALF: Liverpool 1-1 PSV
21:02 , Flo Clifford45 mins: Back underway!
Liverpool 1-1 PSV
20:55 , Flo CliffordA dire start by Liverpool, particularly van Dijk as the skipper conceded an early penalty, but they made an excellent recovery kick-started by Szoboszlai’s equaliser 10 minutes later.
Liverpool were on top for the majority of that half but despite Ekitike and Gakpo’s best attempts they haven’t been able to get ahead.
They’ve had 65% possession, 23 touches in the opposition box compared to PSV’s three, and nine shots to PSV’s one. More goals in this one, you’d think.
HALF-TIME: Liverpool 1-1 PSV
20:49 , Flo Clifford45 mins: Boos ring out across Anfield and Van Dijk goes to remonstrate with the referee as he doesn’t award Liverpool a penalty... Salah let fly on the edge of the box and there’s an argument for handball by Perisic, but it looks outside the area.
The ref blows his whistle for half-time instead.
Liverpool 1-1 PSV
20:45 , Flo Clifford45 mins: Gravenberch sends a ball over the top for Gakpo but it’s a bit too high and Kovar makes the easiest save he’s had to all night, collecting gratefully.
Ekitike now floats into the penalty area with three blue shirts trying to track him; his strike takes a deflection off one of them and bobbles towards Kovar.
Liverpool 1-1 PSV
20:43 , Flo Clifford43 mins: The volume ratchets up a notch as PSV break, getting the better of Szoboszlai on the edge of the box. Saibari runs clear of the Reds tracking back, but it’s not a great ball forward and Liverpool deal with it.
Liverpool 1-1 PSV
20:41 , Flo Clifford41 mins: A rare venture out of their half by PSV and Man tees up Perisic!
It’s only brief though and Liverpool clear, before immediately coming again. Dest just about holds off Gakpo at the back line.
SAVE! Liverpool 1-1 PSV
20:36 , Flo Clifford36 mins: Van Dijk is fuming, arguing handball as he goes for another Liverpool corner, but he’s penalised and doesn’t do very well to hide his frustration, already on a booking.
Now Kovar leaps down to save from Ekitike! Lovely step-over in the centre of the box, then floats away from his marker and sends in a low drive.
PSV have totally sat back. Pretty much everyone is in PSV’s box besides Mamardashvili.
Liverpool 1-1 PSV
20:34 , Richard JollyRichard Jolly at AnfieldAfter an awful start to the evening, Van Dijk may be on a personal quest for redemption. He was a few inches away from it, almost equalising with that header. He already has one big Champions League goal at Anfield this season with a header, the injury-time winner against Atletico Madrid.
CLOSE! Liverpool 1-1 PSV
20:33 , Flo Clifford33 mins: Van Dijk is at the far post to guide in the delivery, the header is so close but hits the underside of the bar! So unlucky.
Perisic heads away the danger but Liverpool keep coming, Gakpo feeds Szoboszlai in the centre, tidy step-over by the Hungarian... they’re in total control now.
Liverpool 1-1 PSV
20:32 , Flo Clifford32 mins: Gakpo - of course a former PSV man, rather motivated to score against his old side, you’d say - curls in a cross but Schouten heads it clear.
Ekitike causes some problems with a low strike, Kovar blocks it with his leg but spills behind for a corner....
Liverpool 1-1 PSV
20:30 , Flo Clifford30 mins: That’s an unconventional block by the Moroccan international, sliding in and narrowly avoiding turning it into the back of his own net.
This has certainly been a breathless first half-hour.
CLOSE! Liverpool 1-1 PSV
20:28 , Flo Clifford28 mins: Gakpo and Ekitike dance into the box, the Dutchman flying down the left; it’s turned over by PSV but only briefly...
Now Gakpo sprints clear of his man again, squares the ball to Salah in the centre, but Salah-Eddine denies him at close range!
Liverpool 1-1 PSV
20:27 , Flo Clifford27 mins: This is looking much better from Liverpool now, much more attacking intent. Ekitike tries an inventive backheel that doesn’t quite come off.
Til has been patched up and is back on the pitch after catching van Dijk’s trailing studs to the mouth.
Szoboszlai tries to feed Salah in the box but his namesake Salah-Eddine makes the crucial challenge.
Liverpool 1-1 PSV
20:24 , Flo Clifford24 mins: Salah drives forward on the right but clubs an attempt over the bar.
Now Kerkez gets in the box but his attempted cross ricochets off Schouten’s thigh and out for a corner... Gakpo’s delivery is good but thumped clear.
Til got clattered by van Dijk in the process and there’s a break in play as he receives some treatment for a heavily bleeding cut to his mouth. Ouch.
Liverpool 1-1 PSV
20:21 , Flo Clifford20 mins: Ekitike comes forward and gets hauled down in the box by Salah-Eddine; Liverpool plead their case for a penalty but the referee isn’t bothered. Slot is fuming. Salah-Eddine didn’t look to get any of the ball, that’s for sure.
DISALLOWED GOAL! Liverpool 1-1 PSV
20:19 , Flo Clifford19 mins: Not a good start to van Dijk’s game however. After conceding that penalty he’s slapped with a yellow card for a late lunge on Saibari, who limps up after having some treatment.
PSV think they’re back ahead; Saibari floats in a stunning free-kick from deep on the right, Mamardashvili stands there ineptly and Gasiorowski is at the back post to nod it in, but the flag goes up. Sigh of relief for Liverpool.
Liverpool 1-1 PSV
20:17 , Richard JollyRichard Jolly at AnfieldAnd that, perhaps, is why Szoboszlai is back in midfield. An equaliser is particularly useful as Liverpool have struggled to come from behind of late.
GOAL! Liverpool 1-1 PSV
20:16 , Flo Clifford16 mins: Liverpool are level!
Better now as PSV give the ball away cheaply but recover it before Ekitike can get his shot away... but Liverpool have bodies forward. Gakpo has a shot on target, Kovar parries, but it falls tamely to Szoboszlai, planted perfectly in the centre, and he fires home!
Liverpool 0-1 PSV
20:13 , Flo Clifford13 mins: Dest is having a lively spell, fouling Szoboszlai as the Hungarian tries to evade him in Liverpool’s box.
Comms report some grim news for the Reds: they have lost all six Premier League games in which they’ve conceded first this season. They came from behind against Frankfurt, but those comebacks have been few and far between.
All a bit static from Liverpool so far.
Liverpool 0-1 PSV
20:11 , Flo Clifford10 mins: That was deeply bizarre from van Dijk too. Simply no need for his arm to be in the air there.
The volume remains high at Anfield as the faithful gee up their side. Mamardashvili is still seeing a lot of the ball. PSV are keeping Liverpool penned in.
Kerkez makes a well-timed tackle on Dest as the PSV man drives down the right; that’s shaping up to be an interesting duel.
Liverpool 0-1 PSV
20:09 , Richard JollyRichard Jolly at AnfieldA disastrous start for Liverpool. Virgil van Dijk has argued he was pushed but his impromptu display of goalkeeping has allowed Ivan Perisic to score from the penalty spot. This is the 10th time in 12 games Liverpool have conceded first.
GOAL! Liverpool 0-1 PSV
20:06 , Flo Clifford6 mins: PSV’s 3,000 travelling fans go wild as Perisic sends Mamardashvili the wrong way and slams home into the bottom right corner.
Terrible, terrible start for Liverpool.
Liverpool 0-0 PSV
20:05 , Flo CliffordVan Dijk pleads his case; Schouten was behind him and the Dutchman argues he was having his shirt pulled, but the referee says his outstretched arm was not in a natural position.
Perisic steps up...
PENALTY! Liverpool 0-0 PSV
20:05 , Flo Clifford4 mins: Saibari gets away a shot that drops onto the roof of the net. PSV look very lively going forward and have another corner.
Oh my goodness, Liverpool have a problem immediately as van Dijk stretches his arm up and the referee says penalty!
Liverpool 0-0 PSV
20:04 , Flo Clifford3 mins: Substitute keeper Mamardashvili has had the ball on the edge of his area for most of the opening two minutes, taking his sweet time with it, but Ekitike gets to dart forward and put some pressure on Dest with a speculative looping ball.
Now Kerkez is called into action to deal with a PSV push; the visitors have an early corner... it’s a good ball in and Perisic keeps it alive.
Liverpool rejig at right-back
20:01 , Richard JollyRichard Jolly at AnfieldCurtis Jones is at right-back, in a switch from Saturday, when Dominik Szoboszlai filled in there. Not that either actually is a right-back, of course, while Liverpool's last Champions League game featured a superb performance at right-back from Conor Bradley, who is now injured.
KICK-OFF: Liverpool vs PSV

Liverpool vs PSV
19:59 , Flo CliffordRegardless of recent results Anfield is still bouncing, with PSV’s fans scarf-twirling and singing in full voice too.
Teams out
19:57 , Flo CliffordThe teams are out on the pitch, mere moments to go now.
Can Liverpool produce another magical European night at Anfield?
Team news reminder
19:53 , Flo CliffordLiverpool XI: Mamardashvili, Van Dijk, Konate, Kerkez, Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Salah, Jones, Gakpo, Ekitike, Gravenberch.
PSV XI: Kovar, Dest, Scouten, Yarek, Salah-Eddine, Mauro Jr, Saibari, Veerman, Man, Til, Perisic
Can Liverpool bounce back?
19:50 , Flo CliffordIt’s been a worrying campaign so far for Liverpool on all fronts but in the Champions League things have been marginally better, with three wins from four matches.
A win tonight would take them back into the top eight and restore some confidence after that damaging defeat at the weekend.
Champions League 2025/26: Standings and full league phase table
19:45 , Flo CliffordThe 2025/26 Champions League is well underway as 36 teams battle for qualification to the knockout rounds.
The tournament’s modern format sees each club play eight fixtures – against two clubs from each of the four pots in the draw. The Premier League has six teams in the Champions League this season: Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham, Newcastle and Chelsea.
The top eight sides will advance automatically to the round of 16, while the teams who finish between ninth and 24th in the table will advance to a play-off round, played out over two legs.

Going Dutch: How Liverpool inadvertently became the Netherlands’ best team
19:40 , Chris WilsonIt was a historic double for the Dutch manager and captain. Not retaining the Eredivisie, though PSV Eindhoven did with Peter Bosz in the dugout and Luuk de Jong wearing the armband. But across the Noordzee, as Arne Slot and Virgil van Dijk became the first head coach and skipper respectively from the Netherlands to win the English title.
As clubs from the same country cannot face each other in the Champions League’s group phase and as Ajax are headed for elimination, Liverpoolagainst PSV could be the closest thing to a Dutch derby in the premier European competition this season. Liverpool have already made a slice of Dutch history in Europe this season: against Atletico Madrid, they became the first non-Dutch club to field four Dutch starters and, fittingly, one of them, Van Dijk, scored the injury-time winner. Slot tried sending out the same quartet of Jeremie Frimpong, Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo and his captain against Galatasaray, with rather less success: Liverpool lost 1-0.
Going Dutch: How Liverpool inadvertently became the Netherlands’ best team
Ekitike preferred over Isak
19:38 , Flo CliffordArne Slot had this to say on TNT Sports before the game: “Alex [Isak] in the last four weeks played 30 minutes and then with us he played 70 minutes in a game that wasn’t so intense because we dominated ball possession, but it wasn’t easy for him to manage himself through that 70 minutes.
“If you have another No 9 who is also very good, it makes sense to play the other one and that’s Hugo [Ekitike] tonight.”

Match stats
19:35 , Chris WilsonBoth teams have scored in each of PSV’s last 10 UEFA Champions League games (22F, 23A), with only Lazio (17 between 2007 and 2023) and Real Madrid (11 between 2012 and 2013, and 2016 and 2017) having longer streaks of both scoring and conceding in the competition.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has only won one of his last eight games against PSV in all competitions (D3 L4), and against no side has he suffered more defeats in his managerial career (4 – level with FC Twente and Vitesse).
Half an hour to go at Anfield
19:30 , Flo Clifford
Head-to-head
19:25 , Chris WilsonThese two sides have met seven times in the past in the European Cup, with Liverpool winning five, PSV winning one and the other one ending as a draw.
The most recent meeting came last season in the league phase, when an already qualified Liverpool lost 3-2 on the final matchday in Eindhoven.
Match stats
19:15 , Chris WilsonLiverpool have won each of their last 13 UEFA Champions League home games in the group stage/league phase, beating Real Madrid 1-0 on MD4 to set the outright longest such run by a Premier League side. The Reds have actually only lost once at Anfield across their last 25 group matches in this competition, 2-0 vs Atalanta in November 2020 (W21 D3).
Arne Slot lambasts Liverpool’s dire defensive form amid growing injury crisis: ‘It’s ridiculous’
19:10 , Chris WilsonArne Slot has lamented Liverpool’s form as “ridiculous” and “unbelievable” as he looks to put a stop to the club’s bleak defensive troubles.
Liverpool have lost eight of their last 11 games in all competitions, the latest coming on Saturday as struggling Nottingham Forest romped to a 3-0 win at Anfield - the joint-heaviest home defeat the Reds have ever recorded in the Premier League.
It was the second consecutive game Liverpool had lost by that margin - the first time that’s happened since April 1965 - with the defensive vulnerability of Slot’s side glaring for all to see.

Ekitike preferred over Isak
18:57 , Richard JollyRichard Jolly at AnfieldA further wait for Alexander Isak's first goal for Liverpool against anyone other than Southampton. Liverpool line-up
18:45 , Flo CliffordLiverpool XI: Mamardashvili, Van Dijk, Konate, Kerkez, Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Salah, Jones, Gakpo, Ekitike, Gravenberch.
Subs: Woodman, Misciur, Gomez, Endo, Isak, Chiesa, Robertson, Nyoni, Ngumoha.
Team news
18:40 , Chris WilsonThe line-ups should be released in the next five minutes, so here’s a reminder of the early team news...
Arne Slot faces a dilemma up front with £125m man Alexander Isak yet to fire but still picked to start against Forest, and Hugo Ekitike demoted to the bench despite being one of the few bright sparks in this campaign so far.
First-choice keeper Alisson returned from a hamstring injury at the weekend but right-backs Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley are out of action, joining the likes of long-term absentee Giovanni Leoni in the treatment room. Florian Wirtz picked up a muscle injury on international duty with Germany which ruled him out of the Forest game, and is a doubt for tonight.
PSV have no fresh injury concerns after their domestic win over NAC Breda on Saturday, with only Ruben van Bommel - who suffered a serious knee injury against Ajax earlier in the season - and Alassane Plea sidelined.
Match stats
18:30 , Chris WilsonLiverpool won five of their first six meetings with PSV in European competition (D1), but were beaten 3-2 in Eindhoven in last season’s UEFA Champions League league phase, their sole defeat in the first stage of last season’s competition.
PSV have won just one of their last 14 European away games against English opposition (D5 L8), a 1-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur in the 2007-08 UEFA Cup round of 16 first leg through a Jefferson Farfán goal.
Jamie Carragher says Arne Slot does not earn same ‘unconditional love’ as predecessor
18:15 , Chris WilsonJamie Carragher has suggested that Liverpool manager Arne Slot does not command the same “unconditional love” as his predecessor, Jurgen Klopp, while dismissing early speculation regarding the Dutchman's future at Anfield.
Pressure has intensified on Slot following the club's disappointing 3-0 home loss to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, a result that marks their sixth defeat in the last seven Premier League fixtures.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Carragher remarked: “To win a league title in your first season is pretty special, but I have the feeling he (Slot) doesn’t have the unconditional love and support like Jurgen Klopp always had.”

Jamie Carragher: ‘I only ever hear Mohamed Salah when he’s man of the match or needs a new contract’
17:50 , Chris WilsonJamie Carragher has called on Mohamed Salah to follow Virgil van Dijk’s lead and speak out on Liverpool’s dismal run of form.
Liverpool have lost six of their last seven games in the Premier Leagueand Van Dijk said the champions are in a “mess” after Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest.
Van Dijk urged his team-mates to be “angry”, describing their performances as “unacceptable”, and Carragher said other players in the changing room have to show the same urgency.

Virgil Van Dijk’s damning four-word statement reveals depth of Liverpool crisis
17:40 , Chris WilsonFor the first time in six decades, Liverpool has suffered consecutive defeats in league games by three goals. Alexander Isak is the first Liverpool player to lose on each of his first four Premier League starts for the club. And Virgil van Dijk had his own damning verdict, even if it drew less on statistics and more on a broader sense of their malaise. “At the moment, it is a mess,” said the Liverpool captain. “That’s just a fact.”
Others might call it a crisis, but Van Dijk’s chosen description was revealing enough. Still more so was his analysis of his side’s shortcomings after a run of six defeats in even league games. The Dutchman can excel in downplaying things, whatever the result. He speaks a lot, but he is not always outspoken. He was this time. The most laidback of defenders said: “You should be angry”.
