Liverpool won the Premier League for the second time in five years, and a 20th top-flight title overall, when they defeated Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

The celebrations began as Luis Diaz, Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah all scored for the Reds who secured the trophy before the end of April and brought manager Arne Slot his first piece of silverware at Anfield.

Slot took over as boss in the summer following the shock departure of Jurgen Klopp last year but he manoeuvred the team that the German had rebuilt and forged them into repeat Premier League champions. Liverpool have an unassailable 82 points with four matches to play and have swept their competition aside with seeming ease this year.

“It is incredible to win this with our fans,” Mo Salah said after victory was confirmed. “This is 100% better than last time [in 2020], especially with the fans. We have a different group now so to show we can do it again is something special.”

Big news, Reds!

Liverpool have confirmed their trophy parade will take place on Monday 26 May, as expected, after the final day of the season.

It will begin at 2:30pm BST and follow a 15km route, starting at Allerton Maze and winding through the city to the waterfront.

Liverpool know how to do a trophy parade

Liverpool might have missed out on a trophy parade for their Premier League title in, but they staged two open-top bus spectacles during the Jurgen Klopp era.

They memorably celebrated their 2019 Champions League triumph in front of an estimated 750,000 supporters in the city, but it was their parade in 2022 that was truly remarkable.

Despite having narrowly missed out on another Champions League title the night before, fans came out in their hundreds of thousands to cheer on the players upon their return from Paris, choosing to wildly celebrate their League Cup and FA Cup double rather than wallow in the sadness inflicted by Real Madrid.

Sublime support.

Will Jurgen Klopp be at the parade?

Officially, there has been no word yet from Liverpool that Klopp will be at Anfield when they lift the Premier League trophy on Sunday May 25, or the subsequent parade the day after.

But it seems very much possible.

Klopp, 57, will return to the city two days prior, as a guest speaker at the LFC Foundation’s annual Gala Ball on Friday 23 May. The German is an honorary ambassador for the club’s official charity.

He will attend the black tie event at the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, with the prospect of him staying in the city over the weekend for the title celebrations a possibility.

Liverpool to finally get their Premier League parade

13:14

,

Will Castle

Liverpool fans were told in 2020 that they would, at some point, get to celebrate ending their 30-year wait for a Premier League title with their players in the streets of the city.

Five years on, they will do just that - just with another league trophy under their belt.

When will the parade be?

12:49

,

While details have yet to be confirmed, a trophy parade in the city is likely to follow the final game of the season. Liverpool memorably celebrated their 2019 Champions League triumph in front of an estimated 750,000 supporters in the city, with the parade winding through the city and ending at the waterfront.

Liverpool were unable to have a parade in 2020 due to Covid restrictions, but there was a bus parade in 2022 after winning the FA Cup and League Cup, although the Reds narrowly missed out on the Premier League and Champions League that season.

The day after the final game of the season, Monday 26 May, is a bank holiday and would therefore be an ideal time to hold a trophy parade, but the club are yet to confirm any details.

Inside the red mist: How Liverpool fans celebrated a title triumph 35 years in the making

12:32

,

Kieran Jackson

Until this moment, the end-of-season recurrence in Liverpool had come with an added jeopardy over the past decade. The pageant of the team bus crawling down Anfield Road ahead of their final home game, emerging gradually from the red mist, arrived alongside the war cry of thousands, scaling the trees and scaffolding to the side. The smell of pure sulphur, flares forming the richest of scarlet red air, came with an added whiff of worry. Fans congregating in the city drank lager and Guinness, stimulated perhaps more in hope than expectation.

Yet on this spring Sunday in 2025? Something new.

This time, there was no angst. No final-day jangling of nerves. No chaos or confusion on the terraces. The old-school radios and earphones were left in the junk box. Because this time, to those with an L postcode and the many flocking from beyond the borders, there was an inexorable party in town. And they were all here to attend, with or without an invite.

Ibrahima Konate reveals ‘crazy’ Arne Slot quality key to Liverpool’s triumph

12:15

,

Richard Jolly

Ibrahima Konate said it is “crazy” how humble Arne Slot was after winning the Premier League title in his debut year at Liverpool.

And the defender, whose contract at Anfield expires next year, suggested trophies will be a factor in his decision of what to do as he said he will only remember what he has won when he retires.

“We have to be happy. I saw him on the pitch and he didn't really want to take the praise, he walked behind us and it's crazy to be humble like that. OK, we are on the pitch and we run and do everything but he has done a lot as well for us. Thanks to him, thanks to the fans.”

Konate has been in contract talks with Liverpool but has yet to put pen to paper on an extended deal and said: “This is a conversation with the club and we will see.”

Which Liverpool players will - and potentially won't - win a Premier League winners' medal?

11:00

,

Harry Latham-Coyle

There are currently 21 Liverpool players in line to receive a Premier League winners’ medal by default. However, there is one notable absentee from that list.

Premier League rules state that any individual to have made five or more appearances in the trophy-winning league campaign must be given one of the 40 commemorative medals given to the champions.

Federico Chiesa has not yet met that criteria. The summer signing from Juventus has battled injury in his first season on Merseyside and struggled to force his way consistently into Arne Slot’s forward line - only making four league appearances, all off the bench, so far.

It may be that the Italian is granted the silver token anyway: the 40 medals can be distributed to the manager, players and officials as the successful club see fit, provided every player to have made five Premier League appearances receives one.

Liverpool's dominance at the top

10:30

,

Will Castle

From about February, Liverpool’s title never seemed in doubt.

The Reds are phenomenal value for their triumph, having spent 206 days at the top of the Premier League.

That’s 165 days more than any other side managed this season, with Man City spending a comparatively measly 41 at the pinnacle before enduring a mammoth slip.

Dominance.

Five years on from the 'Covid title', Liverpool do their Premier League triumph right

Five years ago, Liverpool ended their 30-year wait to win a Premier League title. However, they won it in front of no-one.

It never felt quite right - the moment didn’t do the decades of struggle and their remarkable rejuvenation justice.

But yesterday, Liverpool finally got the title they had dreamed of. Celebrated with their own fans in front of a packed-out Anfield, it was perfection.

The two simple statistics that prove Liverpool’s title win is simply not about ‘luck’

09:28

,

Miguel Delaney

If Liverpool can finally be called English champions again, you can’t really repeat the old line that they’re back on their perch.

They’re now on a pedestal. They can look down on the rest of the Premier League from high above, finally free to celebrate amid the certainty of victory.

There is also an even better view from that vantage point, that has been surprisingly underplayed in this long run to the title.

This is Liverpool’s 20th, matching the record of their great rivals Manchester United.

'Nothing compares' to celebrating with fans says Robertson

09:20

,

Mike Jones

Andy Robertson echoed Mo Salah’s thoughts that this Premier League title win was better than Liverpool’s triumph in 2020 because they experienced it with their fans.

"The last time we won it was a stranger time, but I suppose we kind of got that feeling against Manchester United at home. It [wasn’t] quite clinching it and then obviously the world paused," he said.

"We enjoyed it, of course we did, but you can't beat what we experienced today and how we went to the ground and the fans during and after the game.

“Nothing quite compares to that and I'm glad we got to experience it that way as well."

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou paid respect to Liverpool following his team’s defeat on Sunday and claimed that Arne Slot’s men are ‘worthy champions’

He said: “Credit to Liverpool. They’re worthy champions and they’ve been the outstanding team all year, consistent.

“I thought we started the game well and made things difficult for them but once they got in front, with the atmosphere in the stadium, it’s fair to say it was going to be difficult for us to claw them back, and that’s how it proved.”

Liverpool captain Virgil Van Dijk praised his team’s consistency throughout the season when celebrating yesterday.

The Dutch defender said: “It’s been an amazing Premier League season for us – very consistent, well-deserved winners.

“The reaction that we showed after going 1–0 down was outstanding.

“The time went very slowly towards the end but I’m glad we got the job done.”

'Slot has improved Liverpool' says Redknapp

08:33

Arne Slot has improved the Liverpool team left behind from Jurgen Klopp claimed Jamie Redknapp following their title-clinching win over Spurs on Sunday.

The former Liverpool player said: “I enjoy how they play through the lines, how Gravenberch can receive the ball on the half-turn and drive with it.

“You've got players like Mac Allister and Szoboszlai, or whoever comes in there, Jones, they're a joy in that respect.

"He's improved players, you look at what he's done with Mo Salah, he's given him a new lease of life.”

Liverpool's top-flight winning managers

Arne Slot joins the ranks of Liverpool managers who have won the top-flight league title.

He is the 10th man to successfully achieve the feat but has a long way to go to emulate Liverpool’s most successful boss in Bob Paisley.

Here’s a list of Liverpool’s title-winning managers and the number of times they took top spot in the league:

6 - Bob Paisley (1975-76, 1976-77, 1978-79, 1979-80, 1981-82, 1982-83)

3 - Bill Shankly (1963-64, 1965-66, 1972-73), Kenny Dalglish (1985-86, 1987-88, 1989-90)

2 - Tom Watson (1900-01, 1905-06)

1 - David Ashworth (1921-22), Matt McQueen (1922-23), George Kay (1946-47), Joe Fagan (1983-84), Jurgen Klopp (2019-20), Arne Slot (2024-25)

The Liverpool manager was also full of praise for his predecessor, Jurgen Klopp, and revealed he had spoken to the German throughout the season.

"Many moments in this season the two of us had either WhatsApp contact or we spoke to each other,” Slot said.

"So I think he showed last season when he said farewell what kind of a human being he is by introducing me the way he did.

"That, of course helped, but the thing that helped the most was that he left a team behind that was able to win a trophy."

'What Slot has done is remarkable'

Daniel Sturridge led the tributes to Liverpool manager Arne Slot following the Reds’ victory over Tottenham on Sunday.

Speaking on Sky Sports the former Liverpool striker said:

“To come in and follow a big manager who's been so successful and adored by the fanbase.

“He's come in and stamped his authority on it. What he's done in such a short space of time has been remarkable.

"The expectation wasn't that they would be here now. Doing it with four games to spare is special.”

Arne Slot repays Jurgen Klopp’s favour after Liverpool title triumph – but now he’ll want more

07:55

,

Richard Jolly

Briefly, Arne Slot seemed to lose himself in the moment. A red Liverpool shirt on top of the smart-casual blue outfit he has donned, with great predictability, for every match, he was jumping up and down in front of the Kop. Yet while Anfield chorused his name, he wanted to hear that of another.

A thoughtful man had his predecessor in his mind and, when he took the microphone, a favour was returned and repaid. A year ago, Jurgen Klopp took his leave by chanting about Slot. He was not a handpicked replacement nor an old ally, but Klopp has long had the power to persuade people. He often used it in the right way.

And, 11 months on, Slot celebrated a Premier League title win by singing about Klopp; not particularly tunefully, but meaningfully.

The banner in the Kop borrowed from the words Virgil van Dijk used when signing his new contract. “It was always Liverpool,” it read. And over a season, it was. Even on a day when they briefly trailed, it was always going to be Liverpool. This was a coronation rather than a contest, the culmination of a wonderful debut season for Arne Slot.

The chants of “we’re going to win the league” were scarcely bold predictions but became factually accurate when Thomas Bramall blew the final whistle, when the substituted players spilled on to the pitch, when Arne Slot and his staff bounced around in a group hug, when Mohamed Salah took selfies with the Kop, Dominik Szoboszlai hung off the crossbar and jubilation engulfed Liverpool.

How Arne Slot reinvented Liverpool to become champions without a single major signing

07:45

,

Richard Jolly

After Jurgen Klopp had dropped his bombshell, when Liverpool were assessing the contenders to replace him, several aspects of Arne Slot’s record counted in his favour.

There was the reputation for over-performing, for exceeding his targets. The Feyenoord head coach had won a historic club just their second league title of the 21st century.

Slot was not initially the favourite – externally, anyway – for the Liverpool job. Nor were Liverpool the favourites to become champions after his appointment. Just their second league title of the 21st century has followed after he overperformed again; the club set him the objective of qualifying for the Champions League.
