HOUSE of Representatives Speaker Faustino Dy III vowed on Friday to retain the livestreaming broadcast of bicameral budget deliberations for transparency.
This comes as the House prepares to scrutinize the proposed P7.2-trillion 2027 national budget.
Dy said the chamber would build on reforms introduced during last year’s budget deliberations, including making bicameral conference committee meetings public. He added that additional safeguards are under way.
The proposed 2027 National Expenditure Program is expected to be transmitted by the executive before Aug. 14, after which the House will begin deliberations.
Asked whether lawmakers were considering additional reforms, Dy said, “We have not discussed any additional reforms yet, but we have seen that the process was orderly. We also saw that there were reforms and transparency.”
”I think we should further strengthen the necessary security measures to ensure that the 2027 budget we pass is truly in order,” he added.
Dy said the newly launched LegisHear public consultation program would complement the budget process by giving lawmakers a better understanding of the priorities and concerns of communities before appropriations are finalized.
He added that the House would also retain the Budget Amendments and Review Subcommittee.
