If the latest report from China is to be believed, I—born in 1946—am supposed to hang around until 2096. https://www.vice.com/en/article/scientists-say-theyve-made-a-pill-that-could-let-you-live-to-150/

That means I’ll be celebrating my 150th birthday just as the rest of you are figuring out how to pay for the 12th MRT3 line.

Lonvi Biosciences, a biotech startup from Shenzhen, says it has invented a pill that could stretch human life to 150 years. https://www.vice.com/en/article/scientists-say-theyve-made-a-pill-that-could-let-you-live-to-150/

Yes, 150. One hundred and fifty. As in: “Sir, please renew your driving licence for another 20 years,” while the JPJ officer squints to see if you’re still breathing.

The magic potion targets “zombie cells”—those stubborn, aging cells that refuse to die, much like certain politicians clinging to their party presidencies.

Supposedly, clearing out these undead cells reduces inflammation and disease. The pill’s star ingredient is procyanidin C1 (PCC1), extracted from grape seeds.

Apparently, the same thing we used to spit out after eating anggur merah now holds the key to immortality.

Lonvi claims its mice lived 9.4% longer and enjoyed a miraculous 64% boost in lifespan once treatment started.

Wonderful. Mice also don’t pay income tax, queue at banks, or listen to ministers lecture them about unity.

Still, China is serious about this.

Longevity research has become a national priority, alongside AI and biotech. Xi Jinping reportedly chatted with Putin about immortality—because nothing says “healthy old age” like a discussion between two men whose combined political shelf life already violates several natural laws.https://www.vice.com/en/article/scientists-say-theyve-made-a-pill-that-could-let-you-live-to-150/

But let’s be practical. Even if the science holds up and this pill works on humans, do we want to live to 150?

At 79 going on 80, I already check the obituaries before my morning coffee in case one of my classmates has gone ahead to book a table. At 150, I'd have outlived everyone—including the original developer of the PCC1 pill and probably the building the pharmacy was in.

Imagine the costs:

• EPF telling you your savings weren’t meant to last 90 years of retirement.

• Insurance agents fainting when you ask for coverage until age 149.

• Your children—now senior citizens themselves—showing up to ask why you still haven’t written your will.

Also, just think of the news cycles you'd have to survive: another 70 years of global crises, political scandals, celebrity divorces, and whatever FAM decides to do next. Who wants to watch Malaysia miss the World Cup for 120 consecutive years?

Lonvi insists their pill represents a “scientific inevitability.” https://www.vice.com/en/article/scientists-say-theyve-made-a-pill-that-could-let-you-live-to-150/

Maybe. Or maybe it's the latest shiny way to negotiate with death—like those snake-oil salesmen who bottled spring water and called it youth serum. Except this time, it comes with a Shenzhen label and probably a monthly subscription plan.

Me? I'm not sure I'm signing up. I’ve seen enough. If I make it to 100, I’ll consider it a personal bonus round. If I make it to 150, someone please check if I’ve accidentally become one of those zombie cells the pill was supposed to kill.
