As if from a narrative movie script written and published in 2017, Lee Kuan Yew forecast in his book the results of the Johor state elections held on 11th July 2026.
Singapore’s founding father, Lee Kuan Yew, wrote in his book One Man’s View of the World, “Malaysia is unlikely to change. Even if it succeeds, everything will only return to the original point because the issue of racial conflicts cannot be resolved,” the Lowyat Forum cited in a post.
On Saturday (July 11), Barisan obtained a mandate in the 16th Johor state election, securing a two-thirds majority by winning 48 of 56 state assembly seats. The past BN Government, which ruled Johor for more than six decades, was a coalition with Pakatan Harapan, formerly an opposition party.
The opposition, the late Lee, the first Prime Minister of Singapore, said, would only last at most one general election, and they would have to pay a heavy political price. “Moreover, I see that these various opposition parties (Pakatan) are allied just because they want to seize power. In general, they do not have a clear direction on how to lead and manage the country.”
Even if the opposition party, Lee added, is in power and wants to overturn the original policy of favouring indigenous people and promote the new Malaysia of Malaysians, who make up the majority of the population, a higher proportion of Malays will be incited by the opposition to racial sentiment to teach the government a lesson with their votes,” the Lowyat Forum cited Lee Kuan Yew’s book.
Lee expressed doubt that Malaysia would ever change. “In the end, Malaysia is indeed unlikely to adopt the governance style or political framework of founding father Lee Kuan Yew.
His book One Man's View of the World noted that its deeply rooted Bumiputera policies and the persistent use of race by politicians make systemic reform exceedingly difficult.
“Adopting a leader with anti-populist measures will enable this lot to easily overthrow this guy, as there are many politicians who are ready to maintain the status quo for their own benefit,” the book stated.
