It did not take long for some preachers and politicians to speak out against the necessity of the concert culture in Malaysia following Billie Eilish’s show in the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.

Concertgoers have mostly disagreed with their take on concert culture which they claimed to be opening more doors to social issues and bringing hedonism into the country.

Just today (August 26), local actress Nabila Huda voiced out against those who are hell-bent on banning concerts in Malaysia.

In response to the recent PAS Youth Chief’s statement about doing a nationwide protest if concerts are not cancelled, Nabila made it clear that she did not sit well with what she heard via a Twitter post.

“Seriously, a protest? The country has other things that require more attention, and concerts are your main focus? That’s immature.”

The PAS Youth Chief in his statement said that international concerts may invite the culture of hedonism into Malaysia which is the culture where the pursuit of pleasure is the ultimate goal in life. Nabila expressed her annoyance with it.

“Hedonism? Oh come on.”

Malaysians have since commented on Nabila’s tweet and spoke out against the need to ban concerts in the country. A user rhetorically questioned if the people who attend concerts are viewed as bad people.

Another user made a comparison between the consequences of concerts and corruption, and said, “We attend concerts just for fun, but the corruptors damage the country’s economy.”

“They purposely divert the attention of the rakyat from the issues that are embarrassing the country by blaming the entertainment. Real immature, and it’s saddening.”

Do you agree with Nabila’s take on this? What other matters do you think they should be focusing on instead?
