
SANDAKAN: Local film productions showcasing the beauty of Sabah are seen as highly appropriate for promoting the unique features of the state.
Sandakan Member of Parliament, Vivian Wong Shir Yee, said that the works of local Sabah filmmakers deserve recognition, which can help develop the local film industry.
Advertisement“It is important for us to support the efforts of local filmmakers in this state so that they can continue to thrive by showcasing the beauty of Sabah through the settings presented,” she said.
Vivian said this when speaking to the media during the Film Appreciation Event for Sabah Director Carter Chua, also known as Katak Chua, held at LFS Cinemas, here on Friday.

Read more The event, organised by the Sandakan Parliamentary Service Centre, was also attended by Sandakan Parliamentary Coordinator and National Deputy Chief of DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY), Tang Tzu Ching, one of the actors of Eight Bucks Tycoon by Katak Chua, Lamdojo, influencer Miss Icy San Mei, as well as other visitors and invited guests.
Vivian said that everyone in the community should support local films which are also on par with international productions.

Meanwhile, Katak Chua expressed his gratitude for the organisation of the appreciation event.

Eight Bucks Tycoon is his seventh film and the second to feature Sabah as the primary setting, showcasing nearly 100 per cent of the cast and crew from Sabah, who are highly talented.
He said, the film is based on a true story, except for some scenes, which incorporates a mixed genre of family love, cherished relationships, friendship, joy, sorrow, and laughter, which was hoped to leave a positive impact and provide valuable lessons to audiences through its storytelling.
Other than that, Lamdojo who starred in the film said that he hopes his performance would provide meaningful lessons, particularly for young people.
