PUTRAJAYA, Dec 14 — Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming has called for stern action to be taken against the operators of a fun fair in Puncak Alam, after an incident left three people including a child injured on Monday night.

He said that the matter is now in the hands of the Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS) and police.

“I recommend that strict action be taken against those who organise fun fairs without permission or a licence.

“(Under which) provisions of the law should we act? (We) leave it to the authorities and indeed the fun fair has no licence,” he told reporters at the Fire Department headquarters here today.

Kuala Selangor police chief Superintendent Ramli Kasa said preliminary checks showed the fun fair at Eco Grandeur in Puncak Alam was operating without a permit.

He added that the fun fair was opened to the public even though its operators’ permit application had not been approved.

Ramli said the case is being investigated under Section 6 of the Selangor State Entertainment & Places of Entertainment Enactment 1995 for operating without a licence.

Videos and photos widely shared on social media showed two women and a child being thrown off a “Sotong Ride” after it appeared to malfunction.

Meanwhile, Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS) YDP president Rahilah Rahmat, when contacted, confirmed that the fun fair operator did not have a permit to operate.

She said checks showed that the operator had been issued a warning to cease operations, followed by a confiscation order last month.

She said the operator has been slapped with an immediate stop-order notice under Section 6, which carries a maximum fine of RM25,000 or imprisonment of up to three years, if convicted.
