A local female influencer recently experienced a frightening ordeal after she was targeted by a snatch thief while refuelling her car at a petrol station in Puchong Jaya. The suspect made off with her handbag containing her mobile phone, wallet and keys. Fortunately, she was not seriously injured during the incident.
According to 8Tvnews, the influencer, known on Instagram as @cabibibi, shared footage of the incident on March 1, revealing that the robbery took place on February 10, just before the Lunar New Year celebrations. She said she decided to speak up in hopes of reminding the public to remain vigilant, especially in public spaces.
Dashcam footage showed the woman standing beside her vehicle while refuelling, with her handbag hanging over her right shoulder. As she focused on pumping petrol, a motorcyclist slowly approached the area. The suspect appeared to have identified her as a target from the start. He was seen riding past once before circling back toward her. After observing her for a few seconds, he suddenly grabbed her handbag and sped off.
The force of the snatch caused the victim to fall to the ground while she was still holding the fuel nozzle. The sudden attack left her momentarily stunned and unable to react immediately. She later sought help from nearby individuals at the station.
In her post, she revealed that the stolen items included her mobile phone, wallet, house keys and even her car keys, resulting in significant inconvenience and loss. She has since lodged a police report.
The incident quickly sparked discussion online. Many social media users condemned the actions of the snatch thief, while others questioned why the victim had chosen to bring her entire handbag out of the car while refuelling. Some commented that valuables should be left hidden inside the vehicle before stepping out, with doors locked to reduce the risk of being targeted.
Responding to the comments, the influencer acknowledged her mistake. She admitted that she usually does not bring her handbag out of the car while refuelling and had even hesitated that day before deciding to do so. Looking back, she described it as a careless decision and hoped that others would learn from her experience.
The incident serves as a reminder that snatch thefts can happen within seconds, particularly in public areas such as petrol stations. Staying alert and taking small precautionary measures may help prevent becoming the next victim.
