The Malaysian activists who made it home safely after being detained by the Israeli forces on board the Gaza Sumud Flotilla (GSF) last week had a lot to share at the Gaza solidarity rally last night (8 October) at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur.
One of them, singer Heliza Helmi, had a suggestion for the Ministry of Education (MOE).
Heliza suggested that the government include the stories of Palestinians’ struggles in the school syllabus.

According to her, the inclusion of the syllabus will educate the young generation about humanity, understanding the struggles of the Palestinians, and appreciating peace.
During her speech, Heliza thanked Prime Minister Dato’s Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who also attended the rally last night, for his consistency in highlighting the matters revolving the fate of the Palestinians in Gaza.
Heliza took the time to highlight education as the greatest weapon to instil empathy in the Palestinians who are currently suffering.
“Let the younger generation understand from a young age about the struggles of the Palestinians, and the real meaning of humanity.”
“Open their eyes, so that they will not drown in their comfort,” Heliza said at the rally, which PMX shared the live video of on his Facebook post.
Heliza recounted her harrowing experiences of being detained by Israeli forces
Heliza recently recounted her unpleasant experiences while in the custody of the Israeli forces, claiming that the female soldiers in the regime were the most cruel. She also said that she had no access to food and beverages for two days, and had to drink from the toilet bowl after she was ignored by the Israeli forces.
Heliza added that despite being pointed at gunpoint by the Israeli regime, the delegates moved forward and chanted “Free, free Palestine!”, and the crowds in Axiata Arena followed the chants. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Nai’im Mokhtar, Minister of Communications Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, and Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, were also present in the rally.
