TAWAU: The public is urged to lodge a police report if they are harassed, threatened or humiliated through the use of artificial intelligence (AI) on social media.
The call comes amid growing concerns over the misuse of AI-generated images or videos to bully, intimidate or defame individuals online.
Authorities are also concerned that political supporters may resort to AI manipulation on social media as the 17th State Election (PRN) approaches.

“We are aware that irresponsible parties now have various tools, including AI, which can be used to humiliate or provoke others.
“We advise victims to report such incidents to the police,” he said.
He said the District Criminal Investigation Division and Commercial Crime Investigation Division are actively monitoring such activity.
Jasmin said the existing laws, including the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, may be used to take action, particularly in cases involving criminal threats.
He also advised social media users to be mindful of their conduct online, just as they would in public, to maintain peace and safety.
On preparations for the coming state election, Jasmin said his team has already begun early planning, including personnel readiness and identifying key needs to ensure maximum security throughout the process.
