Loke: Criticise or condemn me, but if you have children, please use a child seat

TRANSPORT Minister Anthony Loke today reiterated his stand in reminding the public about the importance of using child safety seats, stressing that his priority is to remind parents about safety, even if it means facing public criticism.

Yesterday preliminary police findings revealed that the 12-month-old boy killed in the accident was not secured in a child seat.

Loke had suggested that if a child seat was used, it might have prevented the death of the toddler who was ejected from the vehicle in the crash at the Bukit Kajang toll plaza.

Eight others were injured in the crash involving a lorry, two SUVs and a car.

“You can criticise or condemn me, but please don’t forget that if you have children, install child seats for their safety,” he told a press conference today.

He also said that the ministry will now intensify its efforts to raise awareness among parents and guardians about the life-saving value of child safety seats.

Loke had also emphasised yesterday that he was not blaming the victims or parents, but that the incident should serve as a reminder of why the transport ministry had made child seats compulsory.

The 42-year-old lorry driver involved in the crash has since been arrested and is being investigated for reckless driving causing death. – September 30, 2025
