Loke’s resignation will be huge loss to the people, says Guan Eng

FORMER Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the potential resignation of Anthony Loke Siew Fook as the transport minister was a huge loss to the nation and the people of Penang.

Under Loke, who is also the DAP secretary - general, Lim pointed out that a total of RM21 billion worth of infrastructure projects had since been awarded to Penang.

These projects include the RM 16.8 billion Mutiara Light Rail Transit (LRT), expansion projects comprising RM 1.55 billion for the Penang International Airport, RM 30 million for KTM stations, RM 2.2 billion for Penang Port and RM 500 million for Swettenham Pier.

"Loke’s resignation as Transport Minister would be a big loss for Penang and the nation as a whole," Lim, who is the DAP adviser, said in a statement.

Loke earlier said he was resigning as Transport Minister over the conditional pardon granted to ex-prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

With RM 21 billion of approved transportation projects in Penang, Loke is possibly the transport minister who did the most for Penang compared to the series of MCA transport ministers before him.

Lim said the 1.8 million people in Penang appreciate Loke’s contributions as a minister, while his leadership roles in DAP helped the party achieve great heights. - September 21, 2026.
