DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke says claims the party dictates government policy are a tired narrative used to discredit Pakatan Harapan.

SEREMBAN: All government policies and decisions, at both the federal and Negeri Sembilan levels, are made collectively through discussions and consensus among component parties, and not at the behest of any single party, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke (pic) said today.

He said claims that the government was being dictated to by DAP were a tired narrative repeatedly used to discredit Pakatan Harapan (PH).

Loke said all component parties in the federal government, including DAP, UMNO and PKR, were given the opportunity to express their views before any decision was finalised by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“Is there really no other excuse besides blaming DAP? In this political cooperation, there is always room for discussion.

“As component partners and members of the administration, of course we give our views. We are not going to sit in silence.

“UMNO gives its views, PKR gives its views, but in the end, it is the Prime Minister who makes the final decision, not any one party,” he told reporters here in response to claims that PH was taking its cue from DAP in running the government.

The Transport Minister said the same practice was adopted in Negeri Sembilan, where Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun sought the views of all component parties before making any decision.

Loke also dismissed claims that the Malays were under threat in Negeri Sembilan, noting that the state continued to be led by a Malay Menteri Besar while government policies and programmes safeguarded the interests of all communities.

“They always say the Malays are under threat. It’s the same old tactic. What exactly is under threat? Everything is fine in Negeri Sembilan.

“The Menteri Besar is Malay, and government policies and programmes have continued to safeguard the interests of the people, including the Malays, since PH took over the state administration in 2018,” Loke said.
