In a bid to dispel misconceptions and address recent political rhetoric, DAP's secretary-general, Loke Siew Fook, emphatically stated that the party is not the enemy of the Malay community. He asserted that DAP's struggle is firmly grounded in upholding the Federal Constitution, which safeguards essential rights and privileges for Malays. Loke underscored that there is no cause for fear among Malays regarding the party, as it has consistently advocated for the status of Islam and Bahasa Malaysia in accordance with constitutional principles.

Addressing a gathering at the DAP convention, Loke affirmed that the party's core mission is to advocate for a fair government that takes into account Malaysia's diverse and multiracial society. He sought to debunk claims that DAP is anti-Malay or unfriendly to Malays, emphasizing that the party includes Malay leaders, and its constitution is not exclusive to any particular race.

The context for Loke's remarks stemmed from recent political discourse, with some Malay politicians insinuating that DAP's stance is in opposition to Malay interests. Notably, Umno Supreme Council member Nur Jazlan Mohamed, ahead of the Pulai and Simpang Jeram by-elections, suggested that DAP drop its "Malaysian Malaysia" slogan to garner more support from Malays.

Responding to this, Loke defended the party's position and reassured Malaysians that DAP's commitment aligns with constitutional values and national harmony. He urged against viewing DAP as an adversary, emphasizing the party's dedication to fostering an inclusive government.

Highlighting the unique presence of Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at the DAP convention, Loke pointed out that Zahid's attendance marked a significant and unprecedented moment. Loke also alluded to a previous instance in 2016 when a former prime minister (without explicitly mentioning Dr Mahathir Mohamad) attended a DAP convention and praised the party for its allegiance to the Federal Constitution. Loke recalled Mahathir's surprise at the convention being conducted entirely in Bahasa Malaysia.

In response to Zahid's attendance, Loke noted the evolving political landscape, acknowledging that political adversaries from nine months ago now find themselves part of a unity government led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Zahid, in turn, expressed surprise at the warm reception he received at the DAP assembly, highlighting the changing dynamics within the political landscape.

Looking ahead, Loke affirmed DAP's commitment to strengthening the unity government, pledging that the party would not take any actions to destabilize it. He called on leaders within the unity government to manage conflicts carefully, emphasizing that the overarching goal is the success of the government.

In the aftermath of the Pulai and Simpang Jeram by-elections, Loke viewed the victories as a morale booster for the unity government. He commended Umno vice-president Khaled Nordin and Johor Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi for their efforts in organizing party support for the two PH candidates, considering the results as a vote of confidence in Onn's leadership.

In the complex landscape of Malaysian politics, Loke's statements underscore the importance of dialogue, understanding, and a commitment to constitutional principles in fostering unity among diverse communities. The political dynamics and alliances continue to evolve, prompting leaders to navigate carefully for the collective success of the nation.
