The Langkah Dubai movement is rumoured to be a strategic plan orchestrated by former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his close associate Tun Daim Zainuddin to overthrow Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's administration.
According to Datuk Lokman Noor Adam of the Umno Supreme Council, Daim, who is currently under investigation for corruption and money laundering, is allegedly willing to spend a substantial amount of money in an attempt to "buy over" government MPs. Lokman claims that Daim's connection with Mahathir has fueled their desperation to avoid being embroiled in legal proceedings. Lokman reasons that it would be foolish for Daim to invest significant amounts of money to buy MPs without securing the Agong's blessing. He believes that the ruler desires Anwar to be the last prime minister he swears in and questions the intelligence behind such a move.
Deputy Director-General of the Community Communications Department, Datuk Ismail Yusop, has revealed that Langkah Dubai was allegedly initiated during a recent vacation undertaken by leaders and officials from the Perikatan Nasional (PN) alliance to the United Arab Emirates. Ismail claims that a meeting occurred during this overseas trip, during which specific tasks were assigned to "agents" responsible for identifying government MPs who could potentially switch their support to the opposition.
The aim was to entice MPs with incentives and pave the way for a backdoor government. Ismail further divulges that besides PN leaders, an influential veteran politician with a "Tun" title (referring to Mahathir), a former prime minister, and a former finance minister are collaborating with the opposition and utilizing "foreign and local sources" to execute their agenda.
He also mentions the existence of spokespersons who have access to opposition leaders and are spreading the narrative that the Madani government will collapse in early 2024, accompanied by a specific date and deadline.
While Ismail claims to have obtained information about Langkah Dubai from various sources, he refrains from disclosing specific details or divulging the identities of the leaders involved, leaving it to the security forces and higher authorities who possess more extensive knowledge on the matter. Ismail strongly condemns the Langkah Dubai movement, labeling it as an act of betrayal and a malicious political conspiracy that poses a serious threat to the nation's sovereignty and security.
