London Underground strikes called off as RMT issues new warning

  • The RMT union has called off planned London Underground strikes for this week (19 and 21 May) and for 16 and 18 June.
  • The union stated the employer shifted its position, allowing further discussions on new rosters, fatigue, and safety concerns.
  • Despite the cancellation, the RMT warned the dispute is not over and announced new 24-hour strike dates for 2 and 4 June if an agreement is not reached.
  • The core of the dispute revolves around the RMT's opposition to a new four-day working week arrangement proposed by Transport for London (TfL).
  • While the RMT opposes the plan, the Aslef train drivers' union, representing a majority of Tube drivers, supports the four-day week, calling it a significant improvement in working conditions.
