GENERATION Z is quickly emerging as one of the most entrepreneurial generations yet.
Growing up in a digital world, many young people today are more open to building their own businesses, exploring different career paths and seeking greater independence in how they work.
However, business knowledge is not only useful for those who dream of becoming entrepreneurs.
Business plays a role in almost every industry. Even sectors such as healthcare, education and the arts depend on budgeting, resource management, communication and strategic planning to operate effectively.
This means that understanding how businesses work can give graduates an advantage, regardless of the career path they eventually choose.
At Victoria University (VU), in partnership with Sunway College, this broader understanding of business shapes an education designed for a world where career paths are becoming more dynamic.
Through diverse programmes, progressive teaching methods and a strong emphasis on developing soft skills, students can build the adaptability, confidence and practical capabilities needed to navigate the modern working world.
Australian education within reach

Studying for an Australian degree does not necessarily mean having to move overseas from the very beginning.
For the past 32 years, Sunway College has been VU’s exclusive international delivery partner in Malaysia for its Bachelor of Business twinning programme.
Students can pursue an Australian education closer to home while retaining the flexibility to transfer to VU’s campus in Melbourne at any point in their studies.
The partnership brings together the strengths of Malaysian and Australian education. Students receive a strong academic foundation while developing critical thinking, practical skills and a more holistic approach to learning.
“We put students at the heart of what we do, preparing them to be ready for their careers with the practical skills, confidence and adaptability to thrive in an ever changing world,” said Sunway College VU undergraduate programme director Samantha Liew.

“Our longstanding partnership allows us to bring this approach to Malaysia while giving students the flexibility to experience university life in Melbourne as part of their journey.”
A learning system designed for greater focus
University life often requires students to manage several subjects, assignments and deadlines at the same time.
VU takes a different approach through its award-winning VU Block Model.
Instead of studying several units at once, students focus on one unit at a time before moving on to the next.
Each block is dedicated to a single subject, allowing students to concentrate on the content, complete their assessments and receive feedback within days.
This focused structure is supported by an interactive classroom experience.
Students attend workshop style classes three days a week in smaller groups, creating more opportunities to participate in discussions and interact closely with lecturers.
Rather than simply sitting through lectures, students are encouraged to ask questions, exchange ideas and become actively involved in the learning process.
The streamlined structure also provides greater flexibility for students who need to balance their studies with work, family, personal commitments and the experiences that make college life meaningful.
The results have also been encouraging.
Data from the VU Block Model showed that pass rates were 13% higher among students in their first year and 5% higher among students in their second year compared with those studying under the traditional model.

Build a global advantage

While students can complete their degree in Malaysia, they also have opportunities to gain international exposure during their studies.
Students in the Sunway-VU programme can complete one subject during a one month block at VU’s campus in Melbourne at no additional tuition cost.
This allows them to experience studying abroad without having to commit to a full semester overseas, while potentially saving nearly RM10,000.
Australia continues to be a popular study destination due to its multicultural environment and strong graduate outcomes.
VU is ranked among the top 3% of universities worldwide in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026. It also offers access to advanced research, modern facilities and established industry partnerships.
Through the partnership between Sunway College and VU, students can benefit from these strengths while pursuing their education in Malaysia. They can also gain direct exposure to university life in Melbourne.
After all, the university experience today goes far beyond attending classes and earning a qualification.
Employers are increasingly looking at the wider experiences graduates bring with them, including extracurricular involvement, international exposure and the ability to adapt to unfamiliar environments.
Studying abroad, even for a shorter period, can help students broaden their perspectives, strengthen their independence and add meaningful experiences to their portfolios.
The qualification is also widely recognised, giving students flexible transfer opportunities to universities across Australia and New Zealand.
The world is your classroom

Learning does not stop when students leave the classroom.
Over the years, VU and Sunway College have created opportunities for students to take part in events, activities and industry engagements.
These experiences allow students to apply what they have learned to real situations while developing practical skills that may be difficult to gain through textbooks alone.
Students may also build their communication skills, confidence and professional networks as they engage with people from different backgrounds.
Graduates of the programme have since gone on to build careers across a range of industries, from working with leading companies to becoming recognised professionals in their respective fields.
Their journeys show how a strong educational foundation, combined with practical experience, can help prepare students for long term career growth.
Carsome Malaysia commercial head Shawn Tan, a graduate of the programme, reflected on the practical education and support he received during his studies.
“I loved how VU was practical in its academic syllabus. Most importantly, I was blessed to be guided by supportive lecturers who cared for me beyond my academics,” he said.
When the world becomes your classroom, every experience can help move you forward.
It could be the confidence to participate in a new opportunity, the ability to apply business knowledge in a real situation or the perspective gained from studying in another country.
Together, these experiences can prepare students not only for their first job, but also for the many directions their careers may take in the future.
