Kota Kinabalu: A lorry driver and his assistant were killed when their six-tonne lorry crashed near the Indah Permai flyover in Sepanggar, Wednesday.

A motorcyclist was also injured in the 4.10pm accident.

The deceased were identified by the Fire and Rescue Department as a 34-year-old and an 18-year-old.

The address on the lorry indicated it was registered in Kampung Taun Gusi, Kota Belud.

The lorry was believed to be travelling from the Customs direction towards Sepanggar when it approached a traffic light that had just turned yellow.

The Honda Vario motorcycle which was travelling from Kota Kinabalu toward Taman Sepanggar was believed to have run a red light, forcing the lorry to swerve to avoid collision.

The lorry, believed to have lost control, crashed into the flyover’s pillar.

The motorcyclist was sent to the hospital for treatment, while the two deceased were sent for post mortem.
