A 64-year-old lorry driver was burnt to death after his refrigerated container lorry veered off the North-South Expressway and caught fire.

IPOH: A lorry driver was burnt to death after the container lorry he was driving lost control and caught fire at Kilometre 254 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) northbound early this morning.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) acting deputy director of operations Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah said teams from the Kuala Kangsar and Meru Raya fire stations were dispatched immediately following an emergency call at 3.19 am.

“The fire involved a refrigerated container carrying vegetables, believed to have veered off the road before catching fire.

“The victim, a 64-year-old man, was confirmed dead at the scene,” she said in a statement.

Shazlean said the victim’s body was handed over to the police for further investigation, and the operation was concluded at 5.07 am. – Bernama
