Lorry driver dozed off before fatal crash with engineer’s motorcycle, say Police

THE lorry driver involved in the fatal crash that killed an electrical engineer on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) is believed to have fallen asleep at the wheel moments before the incident.

Kajang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof, confirmed that the local man was arrested in the Kajang area and is currently under a three-day remand to assist with the investigation.

“Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect may have dozed off before the lorry veered into the emergency lane and struck the victim’s motorcycle,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

The fatal accident occurred at Kilometre 292.8 of the expressway heading towards Kuala Lumpur at approximately 12.30pm on Saturday.

The 39-year-old victim, who worked as an electrical engineer, was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries sustained in the collision.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which deals with causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. - August 31, 2025
