Lorry driver found dead in hotel room in Ranau

RANAU: A lorry driver attached to a government-related agency’s Handicrafts Department, was found dead in his hotel room, here, last Saturday.

Ranau District Police Chief, DSP Simiun Lomudin said, said the case has been classified as “sudden death”.

The 46-year-old local was found naked and there were traces of vomit or faeces scattered on the floor of the room and the victim’s luggage.

According to Simiun, the incident happened in the hotel room on the 1st floor at around 6.30am.

It was learnt that the deceased and seven others were in Ranau for a school event.

The victim and other staff stayed at the hotel on Aug 4, at around 3pm to rest after finishing preparations for the exhibition.

“All the staff, including the victim, stayed alone in each room.

“On the day of the incident, at approximately 6.30am, his friend made a “wake up” call.

“However, the victim’s phone was found to be nonfunctional and the door did not open when knocked,” he said.

One of the victim’s friends along with several other staff who stayed in the adjacent room had asked a hotel employee to open the door of the victim’s room using a duplicate card.

His friend then found the victim naked. He was believed to have been dead for more than 12 hours.

Simiun said further investigations will continue and be conducted to complete the investigation papers, and the public is advised not to speculate about the case.
