Lorry driver in fatal FRU crash denies charge of concealing stolen cattle

THE lorry driver currently facing charges over a fatal crash that claimed the lives of nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel has pleaded not guilty to an additional charge of assisting in the concealment of stolen livestock.

Rudi Zulkarnain Mat Radi, 45, was brought before the Magistrate’s Court here today and accused of helping to conceal two stolen cows – a black KK Cross bull and a white Brahman bull – belonging to Rozali Ismail, 66, of Kampung Sungai Keli, Hutan Melintang.

The alleged offence took place at Kampung Kebun Baru, Hutan Melintang, at approximately 6pm on 14 April.

Charged under Section 414 of the Penal Code, Rudi faces up to seven years’ imprisonment, or a fine, or both if convicted.

Magistrate Naidatul Athirah Azman granted bail of RM3,000 with one surety and fixed 16 June for mention of the case.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Izzuddin Fakri Hamdan initially proposed bail of RM5,000, but defence counsel Mohd Hafizuddin Khan Norkhan requested a reduction, citing that his client was already facing ten charges, including those related to the fatal crash on 13 May.

He told the court that Rudi had no income as his driving licence had been suspended and noted that the stolen cows had since been returned to their rightful owner.

Last Friday, Rudi also pleaded not guilty to a separate charge of dangerous driving resulting in the deaths of nine FRU members. He was released on RM6,000 bail posted by his employer. - May 20, 2025
