Lorry driver killed after cement dust truck catches fire on Karak Highway

A 28-YEAR-OLD lorry driver was killed after the cement dust truck he was driving caught fire following a crash along the Karak Highway early Monday morning.

The incident occurred at Kilometre 28 of the highway heading from Genting Sempah towards Kuala Lumpur.

According to Assistant Director of Operations at the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, an emergency call was received at 4.21am.

"A team of six firefighters and officers, along with a fire engine from the Selayang Fire and Rescue Station, was immediately dispatched to the scene, approximately 55 kilometres away," he said in a statement issued on Monday.

Upon arrival at 5.07am, firefighters found the lorry engulfed in flames, with approximately 60 percent of the vehicle already destroyed.

"The driver, identified as Muhammad Izzat Kamarudin, was found burnt and pronounced dead at the scene by Health Ministry personnel," Ahmad Mukhlis confirmed.

Firefighters managed to fully extinguish the blaze by 5.12am. - October 6, 2025
