An electric cable got caught on a moving tipper lorry’s bucket, which was fully raised, and this led to three electric poles getting pulled down in front of a school in Gelang Patah, Johor, yesterday (Tuesday, June 10) at around 3:20pm.
According to a report by Berita Harian, the Iskandar Puteri District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner M Kumarasan, confirmed that the tipper lorry’s 69-year-old driver had come forward to file a police report and provide his statement to the Iskandar Puteri District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division, in regards to the incident.
“Police have confirmed the incident of a sand lorry hitting an electric cable on Jalan Johor Bahru-Gelang Patah-Pendas, near a school here. The incident occurred after the lorry driver had just finished unloading a load of soil around the Gelang Patah area,”
“The driver claimed not to have noticed that the rear part or ‘bucket’ of the lorry he was driving had not been lowered. Upon arriving at the scene, the lorry hit an electric cable, causing 3 nearby concrete lamp posts to collapse,” he said.
Urine tests show that the lorry driver was not under the influence of any substances, and he did not suffer any injuries from the incident.
This case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
A video of the incident has gone viral
A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media, as it shows the tipper lorry cruising down the road with the bucket raised before the bucket snags onto an electric cable in front of a school. This then resulted in street light poles being pulled down.
