Love KK Network reaping results of various initiatives

Kota Kinabalu: The Love KK Network programme initiated by the Mayor of Kota Kinabalu City, Datuk Noorliza Awang Alip is reaping results as various initiatives have been seen to match the commitment of its seven components.

They are Love Clean, Green, Vibrant, Beautiful, Heritage, Liveable and Healthy KK.

On Oct 4, a team from the Love Healthy KK Committee and DBKK officers paid a courtesy call on the Director of State Health Department (SHD), Datuk Dr Rose Nani Mudin.

The main objective of the visit was to enhance cooperation and collaboration in various programmes.

Emphasis was made on cleanliness of eatery premises, toilets, cooking and washing facilities to raise the standards of hygiene and health.

“Currently, City Hall licensing criteria requires food handlers to undergo medical check-up, typhoid vaccination and attend courses.

“SHD will continue its commitment to ensure food quality and safety, and give training to food handlers while City Hall will continue monitoring eateries overall cleanliness and give grading accreditation to eateries and its toilets facilities.

“The control of pests like rats and cockroaches will be tackled by proper managing and food waste disposal to reduce food sources, thus, controlling their population,” she said.

Noorliza said efforts to provide a smoke-free environment in line with the no-smoking rules at eateries would continue.

“SHD has promoted many health initiatives and shared educational materials for it is considered prevention is better than cure,” she added.

Present during the courtesy call were Love Healthy KK chairperson Datuk Nancy Ho, members of Love Healthy KK, Datuk Hajah Maznah Abdul Ghani, Datuk Chong Hon Len, Datuk Ir Chin Shu Ying, Tonny Chew, Susan Pan, Deledda Tan and Michelle de la Harpe-Germani, DBKK Director of Environmental Health Department, Syron Tunggolou, DBKK Director of Complaints and Public Relations Department, Zainuddin Abd Goyoh and DBKK officers from Licensing Department, Engineering Department and Environmental Health Department.

SHD officers present were Senior Principal Assistant Director, Non-Communicable Disease Unit, Dr. Nirmal Kaur, Medical Officer of Occupational Health and Environment Unit, Dr. Anastasha Bahri, Head of Inspectorate and Legal Sector, Ramash Rasnan and Food Technology Officer, Food Safety and Quality Division, Ng Pek Hoon.
