THE Liberal Party (LP) on Thursday said it is important that Vice President Sara Duterte clear her name, given that she announced her run for president.

In a statement, the opposition party said Duterte should face the process of impeachment to address the accusations against her.

“If her conscience is clear and her decisions were correct, then the proper course of action is obvious: face the process, reveal the truth and explain the evidence. An open and constitutional hearing would put any doubts to rest. The evidence itself would show that she is worthy of the trust of millions of Filipinos,” the party’s president, Erin Tañada, said in Filipino.

The party said that running for the presidency is not about names or political machinery, but also about integrity and accountability.

“The allegations regarding the use of public funds are serious. It is dangerous for our democracy and our citizens if these questions are simply left hanging — especially when they concern someone aspiring to the highest office in our government,” it said.

“One does not merely claim readiness to offer one’s life, strength and future for the country. It must be proven,” the LP added.

Meanwhile, the Partido Reporma aired its support for Duterte’s candidacy and pushed for Sen. Rodante Marcoleta as her running mate in the 2028 elections.

In a statement sent to The Manila Times, former speaker and Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez, party chairman and president, said that their support for a Duterte-Marcoleta tandem is not grounded on personality politics, but in principle.

“Vice President Duterte’s declaration speaks to the realities confronting the Filipino people; rising costs of living, communities vulnerable to crime and disorder, weakened public services, and infrastructure and disaster-response systems that must be strengthened. These are not abstract issues. They affect families daily,” Alvarez said.
