DEPARTMENT of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Giovanni Lopez announced on Friday that the “Piso Fare Cashback” promo for cashless commuters on Light Railway Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) is extended until Aug. 31.
Lopez said the rail lines’ partnership with the Social Security System (SSS) and Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. (RCBC) would continue as the duo agreed to extend the “Piso Fare Cashback” promo.
Commending the support of SSS and RCBC, Lopez said the extension aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to make rail fares more affordable while advancing digitalization efforts to ensure a faster, more seamless, and more comfortable travel experience for passengers.
“We are grateful to RCBC, SSS, and Finance Secretary Frederick Go for making this extension possible,” Lopez said.
“Originally set to conclude on July 31, the promo has now been extended to August 31,” the DOTr chief added.
The cashback promo would greatly benefit commuters as the money they save on fares can be used for other essentials — whether for school allowances, food, or medicines, according to the transportation department.
The Piso Fare Cashback Promo is available to LRT-2 passengers who use their MySSS Card or RCBC debit and credit cards at the train line’s cashless fare gates.
Under the promotion, commuters pay only one peso per ride, saving them up to P17 per trip depending on their destination. The promo can be used up to eight transactions per day.
