MANILA, Philippines — As part of its intensified campaign against violations in the initial registration process of new vehicles, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) revealed on Friday that it has fined, suspended and revoked erring accredited motorcycle and car dealers found non-compliant with the prescribed initial registration procedures.
The action followed the hearings conducted on the Show Cause Orders (SCOs) previously issued by the agency against them who are facing complaints related to failure to comply with the prescribed processing periods and the release of Official Receipts (ORs), Certificates of Registration (CRs), and license plates, LTO chief Markus Lacanilao told The Manila Times.
Citing resolutions, Lacanilao said some 37 dealers were fined, 39 were meted a ₱500,000 fine and a six-month suspension of their accreditation, while 12 had their accreditation revoked and were placed under one-year blacklisting for proven violations of existing LTO laws and regulations.
Some of those fined were Premiumbikes, Novaliches, Quezon City; Wheeltek, Bagong Silang, Mandaluyong; Exponent Konka, Western Bicutan, Taguig; V8 Racer – Tonsuya, Malabon City; Guanzon Merchandising, Bayambang, Pangasinan; Eversure Maxim, Malalom, Leyte; and Rubi Grand Showroom, Panabo, Davao del Norte.
Those penalized with a ₱500,000 fine and a six-month suspension of accreditation include Iconic Dealership, BGC, Taguig City; and Rizal Autozone, B.F. Homes, Parañaque City.
Meanwhile, some of those whose accreditation was revoked and were placed under one-year blacklisting Wheeltek, San Isidro, Makati; Power Racer – San Miguel, Bulacan; Motoxpress, Talon Uno; Honda Motor Sports, Olympia, Makati; and Rizal Autozone, Double Tree.
According to the top LTO official, the action would not end with the issuance of SCOs in holding accredited dealers accountable for failing to meet their obligations.
“We will not allow their negligence to continue causing inconvenience and hardship to our motorists,” Lacanilao said.
“Dealers who persistently fail to comply with LTO regulations will face heavier penalties, including the suspension of their operations," he vowed.
The LTO emphasized that it will continue the strict enforcement of existing regulations to ensure the timely processing of initial registration for new vehicles and to hold accountable accredited dealers who fail to fulfill their obligations.
The agency likewise encouraged the public to file complaints against accredited dealers violating existing regulations through the official Facebook page "Ireport mo kay LTO Chief" or via the website https://ireportmokayltochief.ph/.
“Through this way, appropriate action may be taken promptly and the public may be assured of fast, orderly, and transparent delivery of services,” Lacanilao stressed.
