SHAH ALAM, July 4 — The Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) detected an abnormal odour, with a threshold odour number (TON) of 4, at the Sungai Semenyih Water Treatment Plant intake at around 12.30am today.
In a Facebook post, Luas said it logged the incident as a Yellow Code based on the Water Resource Pollution Emergency Manual, and activated a comprehensive investigation and immediate prevention.
“Five pumps channel 770 million litres of water a day under the Raw Water Security Scheme into Sungai Semenyih.
“The move was done to increase the liquidation rate and expedite the flow of pollution to the Sungai Semenyih WTP outtake,” it said.
Luas has also increased monitoring frequency at the location to every 30 minutes.
The water authority added that initial investigations with Pengurusan Air Selangor Bhd this morning found that the abnormal odour was coming from Sungai Kabul.
The TON started dropping at 2.30am, with it levelling at zero at 3.30am and holding.
