SHAH ALAM, Feb 2 — The Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) will ensure the usage of raw water in the state remains under constant control and monitoring, so as to ensure the needs of all quarters are met.
In a statement, it said this includes sectors like utilities, industry, agriculture, among others.
“The intake of groundwater is of particular concern and must be carefully controlled, for if not issues like land settling may arise. The Water Resource Abstraction Regulations 2012 (Selangor) are enforced by LUAS to ensure water resource abstraction remains under control and can meet the needs of all sectors.
“On its last day of carrying out the national water resource management auditing tour in Selangor, members of the National Audit Department were invited to closely observe LUAS’ control and monitoring mechanism for licensed premises which abstract surface water from rivers and ponds, as well as underground water,” it said.
The tour, which ran from January 25 to January 31, saw the department audit several key locations and organisations in Selangor encompassing dams, LUAS monitoring stations, downstream alternative reservoir projects, and LUAS control license holders.
