Anwar’s Aide Dares Mahathir to Prove Foreign Leaders Were Blocked

Aide to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Kamil Munim, has challenged former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad to back up his claim that Anwar prevented three foreign leaders from meeting him during their visit to Malaysia.

In a social media post on X, Kamil Munim, who serves as Anwar’s political secretary in his role as finance minister, questioned the legitimacy of Mahathir’s statement regarding the Foreign Leaders and the countries they belong to.

“Who are the leaders, and which countries are they from? Name them,” he demanded. “If not, then you are lying to create a negative perception (about Anwar) and gain political sympathy.”

He also accused Dr Mahathir Mohamad of resorting to falsehoods, adding, “Lying is not good… It is a sin.”

Mahathir had made the controversial claim during a recent episode of the Apa Cerita podcast, stating that three foreign leaders had expressed their desire to meet him while they were in Malaysia, but Anwar had allegedly obstructed the meetings.

However, he did not provide any names or evidence to support his allegation.

Mahathir, now 99, remains an influential yet polarizing figure in Malaysian politics. He previously served as prime minister for 22 years under Barisan Nasional and later returned to power for 22 months after leading Pakatan Harapan to victory in the 2018 general election.

Despite his long political career, his latest claim has been met with skepticism. Kamil Munim’s demand for proof places pressure on Dr Mahathir Mohamad to substantiate his accusation or risk further criticism for making unverified statements.

The verbal sparring between the two political figures highlights the continued tension in Malaysia’s political landscape, with Dr Mahathir Mohamad frequently criticizing the Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s administration. However, without concrete evidence, his latest remarks may be seen as yet another attempt to remain relevant in the nation’s political discourse.
