BEAUFORT: The police here arrested a motorcyclist in his 20s for extorting RM100 from a female victim who was travelling in a car at Jalan Kg Purun, Kuala Penyu leading to Kg Pimping last Tuesday.

Beaufort Police Chief DSP Ismail Abdullah said the suspect was apprehended at Membakut area at 3pm on Thursday.

He said the police acted after receiving three video clips of two minutes, 10 seconds and 12 seconds, respectively, from a complainant who uploaded on social media, showing the suspect approached the victim and demanded RM100 from victim but ignored him.

“We received a police report lodged by a man in his 40s who stated that he and his wife were returning home in Kg Pimping, Membakut from the Kuala Penyu Hospital.

Read more “The complainant said his sister was driving another car on the same road and was suddenly stopped by the suspect riding on a motorcycle on the same lane as the complainant.

“The suspect rode his motorcycle to the side of the complainant’s sister’s car and asked for RM100 from her. The complainant’s sister ignored the suspect who sped off,” said Ismail on Friday.

Following the complainant’s police report, he said the police here sought assistance from Membakut and Kuala Penyu Police stations.

They launched an operation to track down the suspect who was nabbed on Sept 12.

The case is investigated under Section 384 of the Penal Code for extortion.
