M-cyclist killed in Papar crash

PAPAR: A 26-year-old was killed after losing control of his motorcycle upon hitting a pothole, leading him to fall into a path of a lorry, along Km 23, Pan Borneo Highway, Jalan Lama Papar-Kota Kinabalu, on Friday.

District Police Chief Supt Heryan Mohd Tahir said the incident occurred at 4.45pm when the victim was heading towards Kota Kinabalu from Papar.

“In an attempt to overtake a lorry, the motorcyclist lost control of his machine after hitting a pothole, which led to him be thrown under the lorry.

He succumbed to serious injuries and was pronounced dead by a medical officer from Papar Hospital. The driver sustained no injuries.

Heryan said the body was brought to Queen Elizabeth 1 Hospital, Kota Kinabalu for post-mortem and that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He reminded road users to be vigilant when travelling, especially during the festive season, when the numbers of vehicles would increase.
