New national AI standards aim to provide a trusted framework for development, addressing risks like deepfakes and misinformation while supporting Malaysia’s 2030 AI Nation goal

PUTRAJAYA: The newly launched MY-AI Standards will serve as a national “trust infrastructure” to anchor responsible artificial intelligence development in Malaysia.

Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said the standards provide a practical framework to address risks like deepfakes and AI-generated misinformation.

“At a time when AI can also be misused to generate deepfakes, digital impersonation and other forms of deceptive content, trusted standards are critical,” Gobind said in a statement.

He warned that without proper safeguards, such technologies can be exploited for scams, fraud and content that undermines public trust.

The MY-AI Standards platform functions as a one-stop centre for learning and collaboration on AI implementation.

It was developed by CyberSecurity Malaysia in collaboration with the National AI Office, supported by the Malaysian Standards Department and SIRIM Bhd.

Gobind stated the standards will complement national efforts to combat AI-enabled fraud and digital scams.

By embedding requirements for transparency and accountability, the framework aims to reduce opportunities for misuse.

“AI standards will therefore serve as a common language between the government, industry, investors and the people,” he added.

The platform is designed to support AI adoption across industries, from MSMEs to National Critical Information Infrastructures.

This enables organisations to innovate with confidence while ensuring responsible deployment.

Malaysia is also engaging internationally on AI standards, including participation in ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 42 committees.

The initiative reinforces Malaysia’s ambition to emerge as an AI Nation by 2030.

Gobind said the country aims to contribute to trusted and responsible AI standards globally.

The standards complement other upcoming initiatives like the Digital Trust and Data Security Strategy 2026-2030.

They also align with the forthcoming Malaysia AI Action Plan and the development of an AI Governance Bill.

Expanded AI literacy programmes and a National AI Code of Ethics are also part of the broader strategy.
