Malaysia’s ranking in the 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) remains unchanged for the second year in a row, securing the 57th spot out of 180 countries.
According to TI-Malaysia, with a score of 50 out of 100, Malaysia has shown no improvement compared to the previous year, indicating stagnant progress in tackling corruption.
Singapore leads ASEAN, Malaysia 2nd
Among ASEAN countries, Singapore continues to dominate, moving up from 5th place to 3rd place globally with an impressive score of 84. It remains the only Southeast Asian nation in the top 10.
Meanwhile, Denmark maintains its top position with a score of 90, followed by Finland in 2nd place with 88 points, and New Zealand in 4th with 83 points. Luxembourg rounds out the top five with 81 points.
Malaysia’s ongoing struggle
Speaking at the report’s release, TI-Malaysia President Muhammad Mohan highlighted the need for stronger anti-corruption measures to improve Malaysia’s standing.
“The lack of progress suggests that more structural reforms and enforcement efforts are needed to combat corruption effectively,” he stated.
With Malaysia maintaining its 50-point score, concerns persist over the nation’s ability to improve governance and transparency.
