Malaysia marked a historic milestone after witnessing the signing of the Kuala Lumpur Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, in an event also attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, U.S. President Donald Trump, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet.

According to Anwar, the accord is seen as a major step forward for ASEAN diplomacy, continuing the ceasefire brokered in Putrajaya on 28 July.

He said the success reflects ASEAN’s ability to act as a bridge for peace, not just a regional bloc.

Anwar also thanked international partners, including President Trump for supporting the peace effort, saying the cooperation encouraged both governments to take “a courageous step toward reconciliation”.

He added that Malaysia would continue championing dialogue, justice and regional stability, and stressed that similar peace efforts should also be extended to other conflict-torn regions, including Gaza.

This accord shows how dialogue and understanding can resolve disputes that once seemed impossible,” Anwar said, expressing hope that ASEAN’s voice for peace will now carry even greater weight on the global stage.
