KUALA TERENGGANU – Malaysia’s encouraging achievement in the 2022 World Press Freedom Index will boost investors’ confidence in the country, said Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil.
He said this is because transparent media reporting is one of the benchmarks foreign investors look at before they decide to invest more than RM25 billion for the next 10 years in this country.
“Malaysia’s position in the World Press Freedom Index 2022, released by Reporters Without Borders is a very remarkable achievement and the highest in our history.
“I am sure this will give investors additional confidence that Malaysian media will carry out their duties as one of the pillars of democracy, reporting without hiding anything, especially in the aspect of governance,” he said.
Fahmi spoke to reporters after attending a town hall session with the staff of the Communications and Digital Ministry at Auditorium RTM here today.
He added that the confidence, along with sustainable government policies, would be able to attract more investments in the future.
Malaysia has jumped six places to 113 with 51.55 points from 119 (60.53 points) in the previous year.
Malaysia also ranked the highest among Asean countries, ahead of Thailand (115), Indonesia (117), Singapore (139), Cambodia (142), Brunei (144), the Philippines (147), Laos (161), Vietnam (174), and Myanmar (176). – Bernama, May 13, 2023
