Getting your first job offer is usually a moment of excitement but for one Malaysian candidate, the joy was quickly dampened after his father disagreed with the salary.

Candidate says dad unhappy with pay

The viral post originated from a recruiter who shared a screenshot of her conversation with the job candidate on Threads.

In the message, the candidate politely wrote:

Hi miss, yesterday I talked to my father about this job, everything was okay, but my father wasn’t happy about the salary.”

According to the recruiter, who posted the screenshot, the applicant had been the one attending the interview but it was the father who seemed to have the final say.

She captioned the post: Now the one applying is the child. How am I supposed to reply to this?”

Post instantly went viral

The unusual situation immediately went viral, with many Malaysians chiming in with their thoughts and witty suggestions.

Some gave serious advice, suggesting a polite but firm rejection such as:
“I am so sorry about your father. Guess we will not be able to hire you if that’s not his expectation. Thanks for coming for the interview. Good luck.”

Others, however, some netizens went full savage with their humour:

“Reply: Oh then you can tell your father to continue giving you money.”

“Ask for the father’s resume and interview him instead. Confuse them both.

The viral post is a good reminder that while parents always want the best for their kids, it’s the candidate who has to deal with the job and the pay.
