A clip showing a man allegedly spitting into a container of food at a Ramadan bazaar has recently surfaced online.
Needless to say, this has caused much disgust among netizens, who were appalled by the vendor’s lack of basic hygiene.
Bazaar vendor allegedly spits into food
In a 12-second clip shared on Twitter, it showed a man clad in a black t-shirt stirring and mixing together a dish placed inside a plastic container.
Suddenly, he bent over to put his face close to the container and appeared to spit into it, before whisking it away to be cooked and sold to customers.
‘No more bazaars for me!’
In the comment section, netizens were horrified by the clip and slammed the vendor for contaminating the food thanks to his unhygienic act, saying it would be their last time going to Ramadan bazaars.
However, one person claimed that the vendor was checking the food for any eggshells and urged the OP to delete the video.
Health authorities on the case
The Star reported that the incident has been confirmed by health authorities to have taken place in Labuan.
Sabah Health Department Director Datuk Dr. Rose Nani Mudin stated that they were also aware of the video and had traced the incident back to Labuan.
She added that state health officials often conduct inspections at Ramadan bazaars and collect random food samples to ensure no contamination is present.
“Most of our food handlers comply with proper standard operating procedures and cleanliness in handling food.
“So far, Sabah has not seen an uptick in food poisoning cases throughout the Ramadan period,” she said when contacted by The Star.
Additionally, Labuan Health Director Dr. Francis Paul said that they are currently gathering more information about the incident in question.
