IT’S no secret that Malaysians are struggling with the rising cost of living, which affects the affordability of basic necessities, including food, housing, and others.

While most of us are struggling to survive with a four figure salary, one local celebrity shared that an income of RM50k a month is hardly enough to pay for all his commitments.

Entrepreneur and former assistant to Dato Seri Vida, Iqbal Zulkefli, recently revealed in his Instagram story that his monthly basic commitments are not less than RM50k since last year. He also took to the social media app to break down his monthly commitments.

In his first Instagram story, he shared a photograph of the payment for his electricity bill, which reached a whopping RM1649.70. He added that the milk for his son also cost him thousands a month.

And apparently to cover his commitments, the entrepreneur was left to sell some of his furniture at much lower prices than when he first bought them. In his Instagram story, he claimed that people have been private messaging him, questioning the prices he set for the furniture and other items he was selling.

“I’m left tongue-tied when someone DM me “I bought the same type at Shopee and it’s just a couple of ringgit”. How do I explain?

“The items that I purchase may look similar but it’s not. My sofa, I purchased it for RM26,000. I can even show you the receipt. The television in the hall cost me RM30,000. The dishware itself can hit RM25,000. Of course if you look it up on Shopee, it would look alike but it’s not. Please don’t think they’re the same, have pity on me.”

Iqbal also emphasised that he has never relied on anyone but himself to be financially stable. The five-figure that he makes every month is only enough to cover his commitments and not yet his ‘wants’.
