If you’ve eaten out at open air restaurants, chances are that you’ve stumbled upon people coming up to your table asking for donations. Some of them are often times couples, one of which would be visually differently-abled, and they would be selling tissue packets.
While some of us would donate small amounts to them, others are more skeptical and here’s why.
Netizen Addam Dharshan. (@AdwinWidanta) took to his Twitter account to showcase how one of these couples had gone through a restaurant asking for donations, only to later get into a waiting car.
He wrote, “Assuming the best, maybe they were getting into a Grab car.”
In the video, the couple could be seen leaving a restaurant and walking towards a junction, with the visually differently-abled man holding onto the woman’s shoulder as he uses her as a guide.
They then walked towards a junction before turning right and the camera focused on a white car parked at the junction (this is important later!).
Soon after, they could be seen walking back and going left at the junction instead, walking past the parked white car and out of view.
Then, the scene shifted to a different street, where the couple could be seen getting into the SAME white car which was, this time, waiting for them by the side of the road. The man had gotten into the front seat while the woman sat at the back.
Many have since pointed out that this could be some sort of a syndicate, especially considering the fact that after they were out of view, they suddenly didn’t seem differently-abled.
“Eh, when they’re further away from people suddenly they seem fine and can walk fast.”
“This happened to me once, after they left, they crossed the road normally and got into an expensive car. Ever since then, I never assumed the best again.”
“If they’re really taking a Grab, then can look on the bright side. But they’re walking fast like he’s suddenly not visually differently-abled, how to assume the best?”
“May be a syndicate. This actually happens often.”
