Finding a partner isn’t easy as there are many aspects that need to be considered. Other than compromising, the ability to match your life values and goals are also equally important.

Just recently, a Malaysian woman shared her disappointing experience about her boyfriend on a confession page.

In her post, she said:

“When your life values especially when it comes to money is not aligned, what should you do?”

“I’m very stingy when it comes to myself, but for my friends and family, I’m willing to spend. I have a 5-figure savings and occasionally I will accept a few freelance jobs to help with my savings.”

“Him on the other hand doesn’t really have a high paying job and doesn’t really care about saving money. Maybe it’s because he came from a family that wasn’t doing that well so he would now spend money on things that he wants.”

She mentioned in her post how he promised her that he will work hard but now that they’re together, she doesn’t see that anything has changed.

“Whenever he asks me if I would like something, I’ll smile and say if you want to buy it just go ahead acting like it doesn’t bother me. But I know deep down, it bothers me a little,” she said.

“Maybe I’m just too realistic, I see my friends and their significant others going out for hotpot or BBQ. Even during festive seasons, they would send each other things like mooncakes.”

“I told him a couple of time that I want to eat mooncake, but he just smiled and casually changed the topic,” she added.

Upon re-evaluating she realised that he usually spends his money on Netflix, YouTube premium but not on the relationship. When they go out for dates, they would apparently always go dutch.

“We are each other’s first love, and I know we still love each other. But realistically, I just think material goods may be important in a relationship.”

Many netizens sympathised with her situation

“I think you should be straightforward and tell him instead of bottling it up. You should talk about your future with him and if communicating doesn’t help then you should consider getting a new partner.”

“I guess he isn’t suitable for you, find someone who would put in the effort and take care of you. Since you have amazing qualities, I’m sure you’ll find someone better. If he would rather spend the money on himself than on you, it means that he loves himself more than you.”

“If you want to eat mooncakes, and he doesn’t buy it for you it means that he doesn’t care much about you. Surprises are essential in life.”

A relationship takes a lot of effort and it’s better to speak to your partner instead of bottling everything up.
