wk ‘what’s their kpi’ m’sian baffled as underperforming colleague still gets rewarded despite barely working
An employee in Malaysia has expressed frustration over a colleague who allegedly does very little work but still receives salary increments and bigger bonuses.

The person questioned how the colleague continued to be rewarded despite their apparent lack of contribution at work.

‘What’s their KPI?’

Reported by mStar, the colleague had so little work to do that other employees would often end up completing tasks that were originally meant for them.

Why do some bosses like keeping people who don’t know how to do their jobs?

“It has reached a point where they barely have any work because the tasks they were supposed to do have already been completed by other people.

“But the boss still wants to keep them. It really makes me wonder what their KPI is for them to still get a salary increment and a bigger bonus,” the individual wrote.

The individual also claimed that the colleague would often spend time looking at their phone while at the office as though there was nothing for them to do.

Allegedly passed tasks to other colleagues

The matter was apparently raised with their boss before, who then assigned more tasks to the colleague.

However, the individual claimed that instead of completing the work, the colleague would pass the tasks to someone else.

When we complained to the boss, the boss gave them tasks. But they didn’t want to do them and passed the work to someone else because they felt it wasn’t really an instruction from the boss, even though the instruction actually came from the boss,” they said.

The individual also alleged that the colleague would become defensive when confronted about work.

“The funniest part is that they immediately feel like they’re being attacked. It’s about work, so why do you feel attacked?

“Enough with playing the victim and thinking that everyone is jealous of you,” they added.

Says it is about fairness at work

The individual clarified that they were not trying to create conflict with the colleague.

Instead, they said they were simply frustrated by what they perceived as unfair treatment in the workplace, particularly when someone who allegedly contributed less continued to receive salary increments and bonuses.

The post ultimately raised a familiar workplace question about how employee performance is evaluated and why some workers appear to be rewarded despite seemingly doing less than their colleagues.
