If you're a factory worker from Malaysia but works in Singapore, then we've got the best news!
Based on reports, factory workers commuting across the causeway for work in Singapore would no longer need to go through the hassle of immigration. As a matter of fact, all you would need to do is to scan a QR code on your way in.
The new system that will be launched in June will be managed by Malaysia's Immigration Department, involving workers using a unique QR code to cross immigration instead of having their passports processed.
Under the trial run, immigration officers will board factory buses with scanners to scan the QR codes of those aboard.
This is after Singapore rolled out a similar system for cars passing through Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints in March.
An average of 400 to 500 factory buses cross the Johor-Singapore land checkpoints daily, transporting workers from Johor to Singapore to different factories and industrial areas.
Malaysia's Home Ministry will be conducting the trial run before its implementation at the two land checkpoints near the Causeway and the Second Link.
