wk m’sian graduate from b family says mum blamed her for having no savings while she struggles to find a job
A Malaysian graduate recently took to Threads to express her disappointment after her mother allegedly accused her of being wasteful during university.

The woman shared that she comes from a B40 household, with her father earning RM1,800 a month while her mother is a full time housewife.

Relied entirely on her scholarship

According to the woman, she received a JPA scholarship for her degree and never asked her parents for money as she understood their financial situation.

She said the scholarship covered everything, including her tuition fees, daily expenses, necessities and emergencies.

Even before university, she had reportedly avoided asking her parents to buy personal items such as soap, toothbrushes and facial cleansers.

She would instead save part of the money given to her for school and use it to purchase what she needed.

When she entered matriculation, she used money received from relatives for her SPM results to buy a phone, which she has continued using for seven years.

Struggled after graduation

However, her financial situation changed after she completed her degree.

The woman claimed that she has been unemployed for five months and no longer has an income now that her scholarship has ended.

As a result, she has had to rely on her parents again, even for basic necessities.

She said her mother became upset and accused her of wasting money during university, leaving her feeling hurt and disappointed.

“Previously, I had a scholarship and survived on the little money I saved. Now, even when I want to buy soap, my mother has to use my father’s salary to pay for it,” she wrote.

While some netizens offered words of encouragement, others felt that the graduate should be more flexible when looking for work.
