A chronic kidney disease patient died a few months back after seeking alternative ‘Ayurvedic’ treatment from an individual believed to be using a fake ‘Datuk Seri’ title and claiming to be a doctor.

According to a report by Harian Metro, the ‘doctor’ was said to completely reject modern treatment methods and medicines, and advised patients to use various ‘traditional’ medicinal ingredients.

The victim’s son, B. Prakash, shared that his mother was diagnosed with stage 4 chronic kidney disease and was advised to undergo dialysis in 2022.

In a state of stress and emotional turmoil, she ended up seeing a clip on TikTok regarding this ‘Ayurvedic’ treatment and decided to give it a try. She was charged a whopping RM10,000.

“The individual involved rejected the doctor’s suggestion and gave us false hope by stating that my mother’s illness could be completely cured without dialysis and the medicine was recommended by a government (hospital) doctor,”

The “doctor” treated the woman for 6 months

“We started treatment at a premise in Bandar Puchong Jaya with the ‘doctor’ for 6 months using medication that did not have any labels or approval from the Ministry of Health (MOH). After 6 months of treatment, my mum’s condition became increasingly critical until she had to be taken to a hospital before dying after spending 2 weeks fighting for her life,” he said.

He went on to explain that, after his mother had passed away, the ‘doctor’ was spotted actively promoting his services on social media.

His family ended up filing a police report against the ‘doctor’.

The premises has been raided

Serdang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner A. A. Anbalagan, shared that his party along with the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) and MOH had raided the premises belonging to the ‘doctor’ yesterday (January 23).

“Further investigations involving a 54-year-old local man is being conducted under Section 3 of the Offences Relating to Awards Act 2007. A number of items in the form of uniforms, posters, and documents bearing the title ‘Datuk Seri’ were also seized to assist in the investigation,” he said.

The premises involved was also ordered to close in accordance with the Beauty Centres and Health Care Centres By-Laws 2013.
